Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, located in Sykesville, MD, is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform comprehensive quality inspections on purchased and manufactured materials, hardware, electrical components, electro‑mechanical assemblies/systems, and manufacturing processes. The role is critical to ensuring compliance with drawings, military specifications, process specifications, contractual requirements, and internal procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate completed sub‑assemblies or systems to determine the cause of defective appearance or malfunctions.
  • Recommend design changes and corrective actions, including war room requests, in collaboration with Engineering to meet contractual and drawing requirements.
  • Perform inspections using tooling and checklists to fully inspect sub‑assemblies and systems.
  • Interface with manufacturing operations and engineering personnel to improve processes and document issues.
  • Conduct inspections of complex components to identify, via visual and dimensional checks, piece/part conditions contributing to or causing defects.
  • Investigate conditions affecting functional aspects of the system and recommend solutions to eliminate current and/or future malfunctions.
  • Perform first‑piece, patrol, sampling, physical configuration audits, and final inspections on a variety of complete electromechanical LRUs and systems.
  • Visually inspect for adherence to electrical assembly specifications and standards.
  • Determine and evaluate causes of rejections and recommend changes in tooling, equipment, functions, or materials to improve product quality.
  • Review inspection procedures and techniques used to assess materials, parts, units, and/or systems that improperly passed inspection to make necessary corrections.
  • Perform ISO audits as required by the audit coordinator after receiving certification.
  • Submit contract end‑item product as required.
  • Interface with Customer and government (DCMA) for in‑process inspections through final inspections, contract end‑item submittals, and final pack/shipping processes.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and at least 2 years of related experience in quality, electromechanical assembly, or operator roles.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SAP experience.
  • Experience with drawing review.
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerancing.
Salary and Benefits

Primary level salary range: $44,825.00 – $98,131.00. Salary may be adjusted based on scope, responsibilities, and candidate experience. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
