Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Quality Inspector 4 to support manufacturing operations at our Waynesboro, Virginia facility. The successful candidate will perform first article inspections and confirm quality standards using various measuring devices.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent with significant relevant experience in mechanical inspection or an associate's degree in a relevant STEM field. A Secret clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years experience in mechanical inspection or 4 years with relevant associate's degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.

Job Overview

Our manufacturing operations in Waynesboro, Virginia produce advanced electronics, radar, and communication systems. We are looking for a Quality Inspector 4 to support manufacturing operations at our Waynesboro, VA facility.

What You'll Get To Do
  • Perform first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102 and first‑piece inspections, reviewing associated product build documentation.
  • Confirm acceptable quality standards and workmanship practices in assigned work centers by learning process specifications and using workmanship standards during everyday job functions.
  • Inspect machined or partially machined parts, using predetermined methods and sequences to ensure compliance with customer and company specifications and quality requirements.
  • Use predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in‑process and completed products such as electronic units, subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies, mechanical units, subassemblies, structural flaws, internal defects, and missing welds.
  • Use various measuring devices.
  • Accept, reject, or rework defective or malfunctioning units or systems.
  • Work from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawings, or inspection instructions and checklists.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Perform line clearances after each lot to ensure all materials from the previous lot have been removed.
  • Inspections may also involve compound angles or three‑dimensional projections using inspection equipment such as microscopes, micrometers, telescope gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Use your understanding of GD&T and the ability to read and comprehend detail control plans, work instructions, drawings, Bill of Materials, specifications and related criteria.

This position is contingent upon proposal/task award.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical inspection, assembly, machining, or hands‑on manufacturing; or an associate’s degree or higher in a relevant STEM major with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical inspection, assembly, machining, or hands‑on manufacturing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years developing inspection plans and/or supplemental FAI inspection instructions based on part engineering documentation.
  • 3+ years experience utilizing CMS inspection equipment such as CMMs, articulating arms, laser trackers, and/or 3D structured light systems.
  • 1+ year experience programming CMS inspection programs from CAD models (e.g., Catia, NX, etc.).
  • Expert degree of ASME Y14.5 GD&T understanding.
  • Experience working in AS9100‑certified companies using customer‑owned process specifications or Military Standards to perform inspection or work activities.
  • Experience performing inspection activities in support of AS9102 or AS9145‑related processes.
  • Certifications in nondestructive testing: (1) visual weld inspection and (2) liquid dye penetrant testing.

Salary & Benefits

Primary level salary range: $62,700.00 – $104,500.00. The salary range is a general guideline; compensation may vary based on the scope and responsibilities, experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives may be available. Employees may also receive health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
