Quality Inspector 2nd Shift ahh
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(Including the following, however, additional duties may apply as required)
- Follow and comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Perform complete layout inspections by measuring dimensions such as length, height, and distance between reference points, using precision instruments like micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and CMM to ensure products meet specifications.
- Locate reference points on parts and measure dimensions such as angles, arcs, and radii, using aids like surface plates, parallel bars, angle plates, gauge blocks, plug pins, V blocks, sine bars, and precision measuring instruments like height gauges.
- Conduct structural steel inspections, weld inspections, special inspections, and generate inspection reports as required.
- Perform all NDE inspections qualified for per SNT-TC-1A standards, including Liquid Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Inspections, Ultrasonic Testing, and Visual Inspections.
- Interpret customer specifications and read technical drawings to ensure examinations meet customer and code requirements.
- Follow established testing procedures accurately, ensure test equipment operates within parameters, and document examination variables and results clearly.
- Visually compare workpieces to detect manufacturing variations.
- Assist and train operators on welding visual acceptability, measurement, and process procedures as needed.
- Report quality problems to the Quality Control Manager and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain inspection records, prepare defect lists, and interact with other departments to ensure compliance and facilitate part acceptance.
- Document all rejected parts correctly.
- Investigate practices and procedures, perform internal quality audits, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with vendors to address defect issues.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, including equipment, and perform all tasks following established procedures.
- Rotate Saturdays (approximately 4 hours).
Desired Skills
- Ability to interpret blueprints.
- Basic math, geometry, and trigonometry skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Flexibility based on plant schedules.
- At least one year of experience with measuring instruments and computer use.
- CMM operation and programming skills are a plus.
- Level II qualification in at least three NDT methods (PT, MT, VT, UT).
- Ability to document training and certification hours.
Education and Experience
- Technical degree preferred; relevant work experience considered in lieu of degree.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Good visual acuity for inspecting parts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate or higher computer skills.
- Valid driver's license; occasional travel to vendor locations.
Physical Demands
Must be able to move or transfer products using overhead cranes, forklifts, or stand-up lifts; lift up to 50 lbs as needed; stand, walk, and reach frequently; and have good vision, including close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
