Job summary

Bonnell Aluminum in Michigan is seeking a Quality Inspector to verify incoming, in-process, and finished materials using inspection tools and to document results to uphold quality standards.

The role requires reading and interpreting specifications, performing mechanical and visual tests, and collaborating with the Production team. HS diploma or GED is required; candidate must pass a background check and drug screen. Starting pay is $21.17 per hour with OT and a Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

  • Able to read and understand inspection tools (Micrometers, calipers, comparator).
  • Able to use Webster Hardness Tester.
  • HS Diploma/GED required.
  • Must pass a skills-based test.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently; self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with various variables.
  • Conscientious, diplomatic, and detail-oriented.
  • Must pass background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications and tests; rejects unacceptable materials.
  • Approves in-process fabrication by confirming specs and tests; communicates adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approves finished products; confirms specs; returns for re-work as needed.
  • Maintains measurement equipment; coordinates repairs as needed.
  • Maintains QA department files and logs; inputs data into QA database.

DEPARTMENT: Quality

JOB TITLE: Quality Inspector

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

SHIFT DAYS /HOURS: 8 hr. shifts (Mon-Fri) 7:00 AM- 3:00 PM) Must be willing and able to work Mandatory OT on off days as necessary.

STARTING PAY: $21.17 per hour.

What You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Approves in-process (Fabrication) production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs
  • Maintain files in the Quality Assurance Department
  • Performs Mechanical Pull tests. Understand and coordinate operation of optical comparator
  • Maintains Die and Fabrication Print files within the quality office
  • Performs hardness & length measurement checks per SOI 82-05-01
  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
  • Any additional quality-related information that may be required in the performance of inspection. Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist other personnel and perform other duties as required per supervisor.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any equipment problems or any other problems.
  • Work in a safe manner always wearing all required Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, clutter-free workstation.
  • Able to participate in a collaborative environment.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Accepts feedback from the Team Leader to ensure the bundles meet safety standards.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
  • Perform Mechanical (Pull) tests on the Tensile Machine and report findings to the Customer when requested.
  • Maintain all Quality Assurance tools.
  • Verify that all inspection tools are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Perform Quality Audits for receiving in-process and outgoing material.
  • Review Inspection Reports to ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Understand and coordinate the operation of the optical comparator.
  • Assist the Extrusion Department in quality inspections when required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and always without air conditioning.
