Job summary

SURGE Staffing is seeking a Quality Inspector to ensure fresh vegetables meet quality and food safety standards in a refrigerated warehouse. You will inspect incoming loads, monitor inventory quality, and document inspection results to support regulatory and customer requirements.

The role requires attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in produce quality or food safety is preferred and training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect incoming loads of vegetables and produce for quality and condition
• Perform quality inspections on outbound shipments before they leave the facility
• Complete accurate QC inspection reports for incoming loads and other required inspections
• Assess inventory and categorize products based on quality, condition, and usability
• Identify damaged, distressed, or non-conforming product
• Communicate product quality concerns with the appropriate internal teams
• Assist with decisions regarding the disposition of damaged or questionable product
• Place products on hold or quarantine when necessary and release product when approved
• Conduct outgoing quality checks and review inspections completed by shipping personnel
• Inspect finished products and packaging to ensure they meet established quality standards
• Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
• Communicate quality issues clearly to supervisors and other departments
• Follow all GMP, food safety, health and safety, and company procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of company and personnel information
• Perform other quality control duties as assigned

About the Role

We are hiring a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to help ensure fresh vegetables and produce meet quality, food safety, customer, and regulatory requirements.

This position is responsible for inspecting incoming shipments, monitoring product throughout inventory, performing outbound quality checks, and documenting inspection results. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Experience with produce, food distribution, quality control, or food safety is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• At least 1 year of quality inspection, produce inspection, food quality, or related experience preferred
• Produce, food distribution, agriculture, or refrigerated warehouse experience is a plus
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety principles
• Basic understanding of fresh fruit and vegetable quality standards and labeling requirements preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good time-management and organizational skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to identify quality issues and communicate them effectively
• Ability to work independently while also supporting a team
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a refrigerated warehouse environment, generally 45–55°F
• Warehouse may be noisy due to packaging equipment and forklift traffic
• Frequent standing and walking throughout the facility
• Regular bending, twisting, reaching, and handling of products or packaging
• Ability to regularly lift up to 30 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must have sufficient visual ability to inspect produce, packaging, and product condition
• Schedule may vary based on business needs, so flexibility is required
