Job summary

Alsum Farms & Produce Inc. is seeking a Quality Inspector to ensure all products entering the facility meet quality and safety standards.

You will support continuous improvement, document issues, and communicate inspection results to the Quality Supervisor while upholding USDA and company quality standards. Responsibilities include inspecting fresh produce on arrival, recording findings, recommending process adjustments, handling returns analysis for credits, and helping with recordkeeping and

Qualifications

  • Must have forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge of fresh produce is essential.
  • Attention to detail, analytical thinking and teamwork required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all fresh produce arriving at the facility before it’s accepted into the warehouse.
  • Document issues found and discuss results with the Quality Supervisor.
  • Recommend adjustments to increase product consistency.
  • Inspect produce returned by retail customers to determine cause of credit and responsibility.
  • Comply with food safety programs and assist with recordkeeping requirements.
  • Attend seminars to stay up to date on USDA standards and company quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements:
Position Summary

Ensure that all products coming into the facility are consistently high quality and adhere to relevant specifications.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Inspect all fresh produce arriving at the facility before it’s accepted into the warehouse
  • Document issues noticed during inspection process and discuss inspection results to the Quality Supervisor
  • Recommend adjustments and changes to increase product consistency
  • Inspect produce returned by retail customers to determine cause of credit and evaluate who is responsible and how to reduce future issues
  • Comply with all aspects of the food safety programs and assist with recordkeeping requirements
  • Attend seminars and educational conferences to stay up to date on USDA standards and company quality standards
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of fresh produce
  • Forklift certification preferred
Required Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about fresh produce with a special emphasis on potatoes and onions
  • Attention to detail
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills and teamwork mentality
  • Written communication skills
Physical/Environmental Demands
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking
  • Various repetitive movements and good manual dexterity to perform required tasksExposure to airborne particles or fumes
  • Stairs will need to be climbed throughout the day to access the grading line
  • Must wear safety glasses and hearing protection in designated areas
  • Occasionally will need to lift up to 60 pounds
Work Schedule
  • 5:45 - 2:30 pm
  • Increased hours during storage time (September - End of October)
