Job summary

Textron Systems in Hunt Valley, MD is hiring a Quality Inspector to ensure weapon‑system hardware meets engineering, quality, and customer expectations while supporting production.

You will use attention to detail, precision measurement, and IPC workmanship knowledge to validate complex electro‑mechanical assemblies. 2–5 years’ experience and relevant certifications are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to read, write and follow work instructions accurately; prioritize tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong math skills including algebra and geometry; able to calculate tolerances.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude; comfortable with geometric concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with GD&T.
  • IPC-610, IPC-620, J-STD-001, and Space Addendum certifications, or ability to obtain them.
  • US citizenship with ability to obtain security clearance.
  • CMM experience or related programming/ automated inspections is a plus.
  • Machining experience or familiarity with machining processes is a plus.
  • NDT background or exposure is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual, visual, and dimensional inspections of electro‑mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, precision‑machined components, and other hardware.
  • Inspect to engineering requirements and tolerances, logging data for traceability.
  • Utilize CMM equipment for dimensional verification.
  • Apply IPC‑610, IPC‑620, and J‑STD‑001 with Space Addendum standards to evaluate soldering and assemblies.
  • Support material flow; handle non‑conforming material and maintain traceability.
  • Act as liaison between Quality, Engineering, Operations to resolve issues.
  • Assist Quality Engineers with tasks that improve quality and processes for prototypes and low‑rate production.
  • Contribute to daily operational quality tasks.

About This Role

As a Quality Inspector, you play a key role in ensuring our weapon‑system hardware meets all engineering, quality, and customer expectations while supporting efficient, uninterrupted production. You will use your attention to detail, precision measurement skills, and IPC workmanship knowledge to validate the quality of complex electro‑mechanical assemblies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform manual, visual, and dimensional inspections across a wide range of hardware including electro‑mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, precision‑machined components, and mechanical parts.

  • Inspect to detailed engineering requirements and precise tolerances, applying measurement best practices and logging critical data points for measurements and traceability.

  • Utilize CMM equipment (preferred) for dimensional verification of critical features and automated measurement workflows.

  • Apply IPC‑610, IPC‑620, and J‑STD‑001 with Space Addendum standards to evaluate soldering, electronic assemblies, and cable harness workmanship.

  • Support material flow by assisting in the handling of non‑conforming material, generating and verifying labels, and maintaining traceability.

  • Act as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, Operations, and other functions to resolve issues and maintain efficient throughput.

  • Assist Quality Engineers with tasks that improve quality and processes that support both prototype and low‑rate production programs.

  • Contribute to daily operational quality tasks that support the overall success of the team.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar role

  • Ability to read, write, and follow work instructions accurately; prioritize tasks; collaborate effectively; identify issues proactively; and maintain accuracy in repetitive tasks.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • General math skills including basic algebra and geometry; ability to apply formulas and calculate tolerances used in dimensional inspection.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude, including comfort with geometric concepts and dimensional relationships.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with GD&T; entry-level familiarity is sufficient.

  • IPC‑610, IPC‑620, J‑STD‑001, and Space Addendum certifications, or the ability to obtain them, ensuring capability to evaluate soldering, cable harnesses, and electronic assembly workmanship.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred
  • CMM experience (inspection or exposure to coordinate measuring machines).

o Previous experience with CMM programming or automated dimensional inspection workflows.

  • Former machining experience or familiarity with machining processes, machine shop environments, or machined part features.
  • NDT background or exposure

$25.58 - $37.88 per hour.
