Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications to perform first article, final, receiving, tooling and assembly inspections using AS9102 formats.
  • Set measuring instruments and use gauges/adapters for dimensional and functional testing.
  • Perform layout operations and inspect parts to ensure conformity to specifications and tolerances.
  • Apply SPC and quality procedures to verify parts are within required tolerances.
  • Prepare forms for routing, quality status, and tracking of inspected items; maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Provide guidance to others and assist in training of inspectors as needed.
  • Report deviations to management promptly to avoid production delays.

  • This is a union facility so the wage progression gives an employee a $.50 increase every 6 mos and a 2% annual increase.
Summary

Responsible for: Performing various inspection and calibration functions including, but not limited to, receiving, first article and final inspections and part layout. Investigates and documents product non-conformance. Assists in the resolution of quality related issues.

Position Duties

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reads and interprets drawings, specifications and instructions to perform first article inspections using AS9102 formats, final, receiving, tooling, assembly, floor, machine or statistical process inspections.
  • Sets measuring instruments to perform dimensional and functional testing including selecting and installing gauges and adapters using small hand tools or selected measuring devices.
  • Performs all required layout operations. Inspects and tests machined parts and completed assemblies to determine conformity to or deviation from specifications including quantity, quality, dimensions, operation and finish.
  • Utilizes total quality concept and procedures (i.e., SPC charting) by using appropriate measuring and inspection instruments to ensure parts are within required tolerance.
  • Prepares forms for routing, rework, quality status and the tracking of all items inspected. Performs all tasks in a timely, safe and accurate manner to avoid delays in operations.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to others.
  • May assist in the training of inspectors and other employees in various facets of Quality Assurance.
  • May perform similar and incidental duties as required including re-work.
  • Performs all tasks in a timely, safe and accurate manner to avoid delays in operations.
  • Immediately reports to management when not making job standards.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. 2-4 years dimensional inspection experience or equivalent combination of education. Previous experience in working with machined or stamped parts and experience with composite material would be helpful.

Required Skills:
Language skills – ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or company employees.

Mathematical skills – ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Ability to calculate SPC specs.

Reasoning ability – ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to sit frequently. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Must pass vision exam (corrective lenses okay).
