Job description

The Quality & Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s operations, products, and services adhere to both quality standards and environmental regulations. This role involves developing and managing compliance programs, conducting audits, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring alignment with local, national, and international regulatory requirements. The Manager fosters a culture of excellence and sustainability, balancing operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • All personnel in the Quality and Environmental department.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities include some or all of the following
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure products and processes comply with applicable industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Conduct regular quality audits and inspections, identifying and addressing non-conformities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and other teams to improve product and process quality.
  • Develop and maintain environmental compliance programs in accordance with local, national, and international regulations (e.g., EPA, ISO 14001).
  • Monitor waste management, emissions, and resource utilization to ensure environmental standards are met.
  • Conduct regular environmental audits and risk assessments, addressing any identified issues.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and recycling programs.
  • Stay current with evolving quality and environmental regulations, ensuring organizational adherence.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections, certifications, and audits.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required for regulatory compliance and reporting.
  • Train and mentor employees on quality standards, environmental policies, and compliance practices.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Foster a culture of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives in quality and environmental performance.Use tools such as Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, or other methodologies to enhance processes.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality and environmental impact, reporting progress to leadership.
  • Investigate quality or environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain a robust corrective and preventive action (CAPA) system to address recurring issues.
  • Evaluate suppliers and vendors for compliance with quality and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to address any concerns.
  • Travel to any job site as needed. This could include the need to drive a vehicle, fly in a commercial airplane, ride a train, taxi, etc.
  • This position requires the ability to travel nationally or internationally for extended periods of time (weeks, months or years).
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential duty.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Conform to company Quality, Environmental, and Safety policies, any environmental laws, regulations, standards, and other requirements such as permits to operate.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills for managing cross‑functional teams.
  • Proficiency with quality and compliance software, as well as tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • May involve working in challenging environments such as construction sites or industrial facilities.
  • May require occasional travel for audits, training, or regulatory meetings.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and green initiatives.
  • Flexible schedule, with occasional extended hours during emergencies or critical incidents.
Education, Experience, and Training
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in quality management, environmental compliance, or a related role. Experience with industry-specific regulations and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 450001, etc.).

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Standing for extended periods of time while at a work site (if applicable).
  • Walking up to 3-4 miles a day from one part of a job site to another (if applicable).
