Job summary

MBI in Merced, CA is seeking a quality engineer with GD&T and PPAP experience to support supplier quality and PPAP submissions. The role focuses on measuring parts with Keyence CMM/Scanner, performing audits, and managing nonconforming parts within GP and ERP systems.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or 3+ years related experience, strong analytical skills, and fluency with GD&T, Gage R&R, and SPC.

Responsibilities

  • Measure parts using GD&T on prints to develop measurement programs.
  • Log and track nonconforming supplier parts and issue RMAs.
  • Audit processes and final inspections in machining and tube welding.
  • Provide feedback on delinquent RMAs to ensure timely supplier response.
  • Enter data into the Supplier Quality Portal for PPM and scorecard reporting.
  • Manage GP and ERP inventory transactions for quality and warranty cost reporting.
  • Support PPAP for new part sample submissions.
  • Publish nonconformance reports and conduct daily MRB meetings.
  • Manage Lab and Quarantine areas for 5S and spare parts.
  • Support plant calibration program and internal audits/inspections.
  • Test and/or rework of internal scrap; analyze returned warranty parts for root cause.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $22.85 - $22.85 Hourly

Summary Briefly describe the job’s primary purpose or contribution to the department or organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Measure Products using GD&T on prints to develop programs to measure parts quickly and accurately on a Keyence CMM/Scanner (ie XM5000) or using standard measuring devices. To also utilize other measuring devices to measure parts to support PPAP’s or investigations.
  • Support the nonconforming supplier part disposition process by measuring parts, logging, tracking, and issuing Return Material Authorizations (RMA) requests, including supplier approval, and return packaging to ensure safe return to appropriate supplier
  • Perform Audits of Processes and Final Inspection in the machining and Tube Welding Departments.
  • Provide feedback on delinquent RMA’s to ensure a satisfactory supplier response.
  • Input data into the Supplier Quality Portal for PPM and scorecard performance reporting, if requested.
  • Manage GP and ERP inventory transactions for QAHOLD, quality, and warranty cost reporting.
  • Apply engineering and quality methodologies to support the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new part sample submissions.
  • Publish nonconformance reports for purchased parts, machined parts, tube bending & Welding, as well as conduct a daily MRB meeting with operations management.
  • Manage the Lab and Quarantine areas for 5S, replacement spare parts for internal scrap repairs, and overall organization.
  • Provide Support:
    • Plant calibration program (includes; all gauges, jigs, fixtures, etc.)
    • Perform and document internal audits and inspections
    • Testing, and/or rework of internal scrap for defects, as well as mechanical, or electronic part failures.
    • Analysis of returned plant and field warranty parts for root cause and corrective actions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience: Associate degree or 3+ years of related experience, training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, periodicals, technical procedures and drawing. Ability to write emails, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of peers, managers, supervisors, dealers, and/or customers.
  • Mathematical Skills: Understanding statistical analysis and fundamentals of concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. A full understanding of Drawing requirements including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), per ASME Y14.5. A knowledge of Gage R&R & Statistical Process Controls i.e. Cpk.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Other Qualifications: Include Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and other skills/abilities/qualifications not listed above.

Work Environment

Typical 10 hour work days, occasional overtime may be required. Safety glasses required, hearing protection may be required when in designated production area(s). Must follow ALL task specific safety procedures within other departments.

Additional Preferred Skills and Experience
  • General ABYC and compliance knowledge, ASME Y.15 Training, PPAP, Gage R&R, Cpk, Six Sigma & Lean methodology, reporting and presentation skills, data analysis, Auditor skills, computer skills (E.g. Excel, Word, Access, MS Project, PowerPoint, etc), general boating experience is also preferred.
