Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Quality Engineering Launch Lead at our Detroit/Hamtramck plant to drive advanced quality planning, PFMEA, and supplier quality during new vehicle launches. You will mentor cross-functional teams and lead continuous improvement efforts across the product lifecycle.

Applicants should have robust APQP/PFMEA experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to travel to supplier sites as required. Onsite role with relocation benefits per policy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field is required.
  • Experience in APQP and PFMEA with evidence of quality planning and control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead APQP activities and develop quality control plans for new launches.
  • Facilitate PFMEA to identify risks and implement mitigations across manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to translate designs into quality targets and manufacturability.
  • Manage issues in JIRA/PRTS to track and resolve quality concerns during launch phases.
  • Oversee Supplier Quality Management including supplier development and auditing.
  • Apply root-cause analysis and corrective actions; drive variation reduction and standardized best practices.
  • Prepare quality reports and launch-readiness assessments for senior management.

DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED GM IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.The RoleAs a Quality Engineering Launch Lead at General Motors, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful launch of new vehicles by leading quality assurance activities and driving continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.What You’ll DoLead and execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, including the development and implementation of robust quality control plans for new product launches.Facilitate and contribute to Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify and mitigate potential risks in manufacturing processes.Collaborate closely with Product Engineering teams to translate design requirements into measurable quality targets and ensure manufacturability.Utilize JIRA - PRTS (Problem Resolution and Tracking System) to effectively manage, track, and resolve quality-related issues during all phases of vehicle launch.Oversee Supplier Quality Management initiatives, including supplier assessments, development, and ongoing performance monitoring to ensure component quality.Apply advanced Technical Problem-Solving methodologies to analyze root causes of defects and implement permanent corrective actions.Implement Variation Reduction strategies and tools to minimize process and product variability, enhancing overall quality and efficiency.Possess a deep understanding of the Vehicle Manufacturing Process and identify critical control points to proactively prevent quality issues.Mentor and guide cross-functional teams on quality best practices and continuous improvement principles.Prepare and present comprehensive quality reports and launch readiness assessments to senior management.Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.Proven experience in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).Demonstrated expertise in Product Engineering principles and their application to quality assurance.Proficiency in utilizing Problem Resolution and Tracking Systems (PRTS) for effective issue management.Strong background in Supplier Quality Management, including supplier development and auditing.Exceptional Technical Problem-Solving skills with a track record of successful root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.Experience in applying Variation Reduction techniques to improve product and process quality.Comprehensive knowledge of the Vehicle Manufacturing Process and associated quality requirements.Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.Ability to travel as required to support launch activities and supplier engagements.What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Competitive Edge - Experience in a manufacturing facility in a Launch Lead or Support role.GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
