Job description

Quality Engineer

18-month Contract Role

Supporting facilities in Buffalo, NY

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for performing oversight and source inspection at Westinghouse supplier facilities. The QE will use inspection and test equipment to perform inspections, assess quality program implementation, and collaborate with suppliers to address deficiencies and gaps. The QE will interact with cross-functional eVinci Microreactor development teams to ensure supplier oversight initiatives are met and program objectives are achieved. Domestic and international travel is required, with the ability to possess a passport and visas as needed.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate internally with Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Manufacturing to coordinate oversight and inspection activities at supplier facilities.
  2. Communicate with suppliers to schedule oversight visits.
  3. Perform in-process and final inspections to verify compliance with technical and quality requirements.
  4. Identify and document deviations from quality specifications or compliance requirements.
  5. Assess suppliers’ quality systems for adherence to applicable codes, standards, and procurement requirements.
  6. Provide feedback to suppliers on issues to ensure timely improvements and corrective actions.
  7. Maintain detailed inspection reports and track nonconformances and corrective actions.
  8. Review vendor inspection documentation and other quality documents for compliance.
  9. Select product samples for testing, using appropriate inspection tools and equipment.
  10. Coordinate with internal Quality personnel for purchasing metrology equipment or services.
  11. Achieve inspector qualification (ANSI N45.2.9/NQA-1).
Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience as a Quality Engineer or similar role.
  • Formal training in metrology and inspection preferred.
  • Experience with audit and supplier source surveillance preferred.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools like calipers, gauges, micrometers, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to move safely throughout supplier facilities.
  • Competency in managing electronic inspection records.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, or ASME NQA-1 systems.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally (up to 75% travel, 2 weeks max).
  • Knowledge of business software (Microsoft Office, Teams, SAP, Leading2Lean) is preferred.
