The QE will analyze product and process data, lead cross-functional problem solving, and drive continuous improvement through PDCA, 5-Why, and related methods, with a focus on compliance and quality

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with quality tools and problem solving (e.g., 5-Why, PDCA).
  • Lean manufacturing certification (green belt) preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains product certification and compliance readiness by supporting certification programs, tracking status, renewal dates, and testing needs.
  • Coordinates certification and qualification activities, including sample shipment, test planning, review of results, and documentation.
  • Supports audits by preparing records, coordinating logistics, responding to findings, and closing corrective actions.
  • Analyzes quality data to identify negative trends and risks; communicates findings and recommends actions.
  • Leads cross-functional teams using PDCA/5-Why to implement countermeasures and updates procedures as needed.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Quality Engineer is to ensure products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements by providing quality engineering support across the product lifecycle. This role supports product certification and ongoing compliance activities (e.g., coordinating certification testing, maintaining certification documentation, and supporting internal/external audits), analyzes product and process performance data to identify risks and negative trends, and leads cross‑functional problem solving and continuous improvement using established quality tools (e.g., corrective action, 5-Why, PDCA) to implement and verify effective countermeasures. General Support to QMS

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

BS in Engineering Discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The Quality Engineer reports directly to the QA/QC Manager or designee. The QE shall select and facilitate projects or assigned tasks until completed. The QE should utilize data from Power BI dashboards, Lightera proprietary software, ect. to determine development projects, provide inputs into those projects, and gauge project performance. Quality Engineer should also use data from previously mentioned sources to facilitate problem solving teams used to perform root cause analysis, determine countermeasures, and verify or validate corrective actions. The Quality Engineer shall represent the Quality Department or Manager in engagements requiring inputs/present of the two entities mentioned. Ability to use all foundation skills necessary and apply them effectively to solve problems. Must have the ability to fully comprehend and process Operating Instructions, Process Change Notices, Setup Information, Hold/Stop Tags, Time Sheets, Maintenance Work Orders, and Material Requirements. Must be able to complete the required paperwork, track projects through to completion, and coordinate material and personnel resources to ensure favorable outputs within the processes. The Quality Engineer must be able to train and provide feedback of training statuses at the request of the QA/QC Manager. The Quality Engineer must lead by example with a good attitude and attendance, with the ability to communicate verbally and in written form. The QE will be expected to follow established company policies.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Industrial, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering disciplines or 5 years of related work experience
  • LEAN Manufacturing certification (green belt)
  • Project Management experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains product certification and compliance readiness by supporting certification programs (e.g., UL/ETL/CPR or customer‑specific requirements), tracking certification status, renewal dates, and periodic testing needs, and ensuring controlled records are current and accessible.
  • Coordinates certification and qualification activities, including sample selection/shipment, test planning with internal labs and external agencies, review of test results, and compilation/submission of required technical packages, declarations, and supporting evidence.
  • Supports internal and external audits by preparing records, coordinating audit logistics, responding to findings, and driving timely closure of corrective actions; performs periodic self‑assessments of certification‑related processes to maintain audit readiness.
  • Analyzes quality and compliance‑related data (e.g., nonconformances/hold tags, test results, process capability, customer complaints) to identify negative trends and certification/compliance risks; communicates findings and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
  • Leads and facilitates cross‑functional teams using structured problem solving (PDCA, 5-Why, corrective action) to implement, verify, and sustain countermeasures; supports change control by assessing quality/certification impacts of material, process, and labeling/marking changes and updating affected procedures and work instructions as needed.

  • Measurement equipment: Microscope, calipers, gauges, ect.
  • Pin Gauge
  • Microsoft Office Applications (especially Word and Excel)
  • Able to use data analysis applications like Minitab
  • Can manage multiple tasks effectively
