Job summary

Atkore is seeking a Quality Engineer for our Kokomo, IN plant. You will support manufacturing by monitoring product quality, analyzing defects, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.

This role focuses on reducing waste, improving process capability, and maintaining customer satisfaction through continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has a manufacturing background and experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and SPC, plus strong data analytics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or related field with 1–3 years manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, and FMEA.
  • Experience with SPC, Cp/Cpk, Gauge R&R, gage calibration, and ISO 9001 quality management standards.
  • Advanced data analytics and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Windows applications: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate & participate in concept brainstorming & ideation sessions.
  • Work as a hands-on Engineer related to design, material, or process.
  • Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting and diagnosing quality problems.
  • Create Standard Work documents and help maintain the Control Documents system.
  • Lead projects across the department as needed.
  • Research future concepts and monitor technology trends.
  • Drive Lean Methodology within the Atkore Business System.

Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Quality Engineer to be based out of our Kokomo, IN plant. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this person will support manufacturing operations by monitoring product quality, analyzing defects, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. This role focuses on reducing waste, improving process capability, and maintaining customer satisfaction through continuous improvement initiatives. The individual will serve as a change agent and represent the Quality function on assigned project teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:
  • Facilitate & participate in concept brainstorming & ideation sessions.
  • Work as a \"hands-on\" Engineer as related to design, material, or process.
  • Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting & diagnosing design and manufacturing quality problems.
  • Create Standard Work documents and help maintain the Controlled Document system.
  • Leads projects across the department as needed.
  • Research future concepts within the market including monitoring of technology trends.
  • Drive Lean Methodology within the Atkore Business System.
What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or related field required with 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Thorough understanding and practical application of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Control Plans, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability studies (Cp/Cpk), Gauge R&R analysis, gage calibration systems, and ISO 9001 quality management standards.
  • Advanced data analytic and computer system skills required
  • Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skills with the use of Windows Applications: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint & Word
  • Proven problem-solving mindset and creative skillset
Within 3 months, you'll:
  • Complete your new hire immersion.
  • Develop relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
  • Learn about our products and customers.
  • Familiarize yourself with inspection methods and inspection tools.
Within 6 months, you'll:
  • Gain an understanding of the current Quality Procedures.
  • Partner with Quality Manager to identify short- and long-term process improvement ideas.
  • Participate in problem solving events
  • Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's core values.
Within 12 months, you'll:
  • Create, update, and share Work Instructions and Procedures.
  • Lead problem solving events.
  • Lead lean initiatives to drive process improvements.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $60,560 - $83,270. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
