Position Summary:
As a Quality Engineer – Manufacturing at RAM Precision Industries, you will support quality and manufacturing operations through the development of inspection documentation, process check sheets, ballooned drawings, and manufacturing drawings. Your collaboration with Quality, Engineering, Production, and CNC personnel is essential to ensure that manufacturing requirements are clearly documented and that finished components meet customer and engineering specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain manufacturing and quality process check sheets for production and inspection.
- Review existing customer and engineering prints to create ballooned drawings identifying dimensions, tolerances, notes, and other inspection requirements.
- Develop inspection documentation based on ballooned drawings and customer criteria.
- Create, revise, and maintain process and manufacturing drawings used throughout production.
- Generate and modify 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion.
- Review engineering drawings, customer prints, specifications, and technical requirements for accuracy.
- Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality teams to establish critical inspection points throughout the manufacturing process.
- Develop clear inspection criteria for first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
- Assist in determining appropriate measurement and inspection methods for manufactured components.
- Provide support to Production regarding inquiries on drawings, dimensions, tolerances, or inspection requirements.
- Investigate discrepancies, nonconforming materials, and other quality-related issues.
- Assist with root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in inspection processes, documentation, and manufacturing controls.
- Maintain accurate revision control of drawings, check sheets, and inspection documentation.
- Ensure updated quality documentation is communicated and accessible to relevant departments.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and manufacturing.
- Adhere to all RAM Precision Industries safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing, quality, or engineering environment.
- Proven experience creating and maintaining manufacturing or quality process check sheets.
- Familiarity with reviewing and ballooning engineering drawings and customer prints.
- Proficiency in creating and modifying engineering and manufacturing drawings.
- SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion experience in generating 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, dimensional tolerances, and engineering drawing standards.
- Understanding precision manufacturing and machining processes.
- Knowledgeable in inspection methods and precision measuring equipment.
- Strong computer skills and technical documentation abilities.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills with Quality, Engineering, CNC, Production, and management.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
- Associates degree or equivalent combination of experience in manufacturing, quality, CAD, and engineering may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, engineering, or a related technical position preferred.
- Previous experience in precision machining or CNC manufacturing strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced SolidWorks skills.
- Experience with Autodesk Fusion.
- Experience developing ballooned prints and inspection documentation.
- Established knowledge of GD&T and its applications.
- Familiarity with first-piece and first-article inspection processes.
- Experience with tight-tolerance precision components and CNC machining.
- Background in root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Familiarity with quality systems and manufacturing documentation control processes.
