This Quality Engineer II role focuses on driving robust quality processes within a fast-growing manufacturing environment that produces switchgear, busbars, and electrical distribution equipment for data centers. You will lead and improve quality systems, support key customer requirements such as PPAP, and perform root cause analysis to ensure products meet stringent industry standards, including ISO 9001, UL, and milspec specifications. This position is fully on-site and requires close collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams to support both low- and high-volume, engineer-to-order production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage quality engineering activities on the manufacturing floor, ensuring products meet internal and external quality standards.

  • Perform and oversee Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities for major customers, ensuring all documentation and validation requirements are met.

  • Update and maintain quality procedures and documentation within the ISO 9001 quality management system, supporting ongoing certification and compliance.

  • Participate in and lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations using tools such as Fishbone diagrams and 5 Why analysis to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.

  • Support and improve the Quality Management System (QMS), including processes for incoming, in-process, and final inspection.

  • Conduct and oversee quality inspections on electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, and related components to ensure conformance to specifications, UL standards, and milspec requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to address quality concerns in low- to high-volume and engineer-to-order production environments.

  • Review and manage Material Review Board (MRB) activities, including disposition of nonconforming materials and components.

  • Utilize Bills of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation to verify product configuration and ensure accurate build and inspection criteria.

  • Apply knowledge of UL standards, including UL 891 switchboard commercial standards, and milspec requirements to guide design, manufacturing, and inspection practices.

  • Monitor and report on quality-related key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement in product and process quality.

  • Support efforts to maintain and enhance certifications and standards, particularly ISO 9001, and contribute to quality-related initiatives in a growing organization.

  • Engage confidently with internal teams and customers to communicate quality requirements, findings, and improvement plans.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing floor environment.

  • Hands-on experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) for key customers.

  • Demonstrated experience updating and maintaining quality procedures within an ISO 9001 environment.

  • Strong proficiency in root cause analysis (RCA) using tools such as Fishbone diagrams and 5 Why techniques.

  • Experience with quality inspection processes, including incoming inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection.

  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and practical experience implementing and improving QMS processes.

  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical, and power distribution equipment, including switchgear and variable frequency applications.

  • Understanding of UL standards, particularly UL 891 switchboard commercial standards.

  • Familiarity with milspec standards and their application to manufacturing and inspection.

  • Ability to interpret and work with Bills of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation.

  • Experience supporting Material Review Board (MRB) activities and handling nonconforming material.

  • Comfort working in both low- and high-volume production environments and with engineer-to-order products.

  • Strong collaboration skills for working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams.

  • Confidence in decision-making and communication when addressing quality issues and improvement initiatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred, ideally in engineering, quality, or a related technical field.

  • Experience working in organizations that are establishing or expanding certifications and quality systems, such as ISO 9001, is a strong plus.

  • Background in companies focused on electrical and automation equipment is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, and power conversions in data center or similar environments.

  • Experience using and tracking quality-related KPIs to support continuous improvement.

  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly growing company and adapt to evolving processes and customer requirements.
