Job summary

Enpro Inc. is hiring a Quality Engineer to interpret company and customer quality requirements across all manufacturing stages. You will translate requirements into quality instructions and procedures, working with cross-functional teams to implement effective controls.

The role requires a motivated, independent professional with strong AS9100/ISO9001 knowledge, experience in aerospace machining, and proficiency in PPAP artifacts and GD&T.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 5+ years' experience or 7+ years direct experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in an Aerospace machining environment preferred.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and multi-task daily priorities.
  • Excellent knowledge of Access database and proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Strong GD&T understanding and expertise in PFMEA, control plans, PFMEA, and PPAP.
  • Experience performing AS9100 or ISO9001 internal audits and documenting findings.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; supplier quality experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality engineering functions in a low volume, high mix machine shop.
  • Carry out first article reports and uphold AS9102C standards.
  • Manage quality for strategic customer accounts and drive corrective actions.
  • Create and approve PPAP artifacts like PFMEA, Process Maps, and Gage R&R.
  • Interpret customer drawings and approve incoming inspection plans.
  • Perform ISO9001/AS9100 internal audits and track corrective actions.
  • Support calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment; interface with suppliers.
  • Travel occasionally as needed.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

The Quality Engineer is a critical individual in interpreting both company and customer quality requirements, translating them to support all phases of the manufacturing cycle and working closely with colleagues to initiate workable quality instructions and procedures. This position requires a highly motivated and energetic individual that can work with minimal supervision and multi-task various priorities.
Essential Functions

  • Responsible for quality engineering functions in a low volume high mix machine shop
  • Must be proficient in first article reports and have a working understanding of AS9102C
  • Quality management of strategic customer accounts. Lead failure analysis efforts and document findings. Communicate findings to all stakeholders
  • Ability to create and maintain customer required PPAP’s (PFMEA, Process Maps, Process FMEA, Gage R'R)
  • Interpreting customer drawings and creating / approve incoming inspection plans
  • Great working knowledge of 8D problem solving
  • Interact with quality inspectors, machinists and suppliers when quality issues arise, and take the lead to drive improvements through our corrective action process with effectivity follow up auditing
  • Perform ISO9001:2015 / AS9100:2016 internal audits to ensure compliance with all internal QMS and external customer requirements. Issuance and tracking of corrective actions as applicable
  • Assist department with calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment
  • Other related department requirements as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (Mechanical / Electrical Engineering) preferred with a minimum of 5+ years' experience or 7+ years of relevant direct experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in an Aerospace machining environment is strongly preferred
  • Must be able to work with little supervision and be able to multi-task and set daily priorities
  • Excellent knowledge of Access database is a must (or the ability to quickly learn how to construct and maintain a database)
  • Good working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a must
  • Thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques (i.e., 8D reports, fault tree, PFMEA, control plans, etc.)
  • Skilled in performing AS9100 or ISO9001 internal audits, documenting findings and direct follow up on corrections
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Previous experience in supplier quality and development is a plus
  • Occasional travel may be required as needed

Physical Requirements
Sitting; standing; walking throughout the facility; talking; seeing; hearing; feeling; bending or stooping; squatting or crouching; reaching; kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting up to 35 lbs. The candidate must wear appropriate/required Personal Protective Equipment and must be able to work at a desk or in front of a computer for long periods of time. The candidate must also possess near vision in at least one eye, corrected or uncorrected, equivalent to J2 at 12".

Working Environment
Candidate will split time between a general office environment and a manufacturing floor environment - safety hazards will be typical of these general environments.
