Job summary

Exowatt is hiring a Quality Engineer to own the quality of our supply chain and manufacturing operations in Austin, TX. You will qualify suppliers, lead root-cause investigations, and build the quality systems to scale from pilot builds to volume production.

This hands-on role requires deep experience with supplier quality tools, metrology, GD&T, and ISO 9001, with travel to supplier facilities as needed. Relocation is provided if necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of quality engineering experience in a hardware manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience with supplier quality — audits, FAI, PPAP, SCARs, and supplier development.
• Root-cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why, fishbone) and statistical tools (SPC, Cpk, MSA, DOE basics).
• Fluency with GD&T and ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Experience with metrology and inspection tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators).
• Deep experience with ISO 9001 and fundamentals of building or operating a QMS.
• Willingness to travel to supplier facilities domestically and occasionally internationally.

Responsibilities

• Own incoming inspection, in-process, and final quality for issued commodities, sub-assemblies, and finished product.
• Qualify new suppliers — on-site audits, FAI, PPAP-style submissions, and process capability reviews.
• Develop inspection plans, control plans, and acceptance criteria for parts and components.
• Lead root-cause investigations (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa) and drive CAPA to closure.
• Manage non-conformance (NCR) and SCAR processes end-to-end.
• Translate design intent into manufacturable, inspectable specs (GD&T).
• Track quality metrics and drive continuous improvement.
• Support NPI from prototype to production ramp, including process validation and pilot builds.
• Build and maintain quality documentation and QMS elements.
• Collaborate with Reliability Engineering to feed data into failure analysis and design improvements.
