Job summary

Super Radiator Coils in Mesa, AZ seeks a Quality Engineer to drive product and process quality across manufacturing operations. You will own quality planning, risk mitigation, PFMEA, control plans, and CAPA, partnering with Engineering, Production, and QC to prevent defects and improve process capability.

The role requires 3–7+ years in manufacturing quality, a 4-year degree, and hands-on experience with ISO 9001 and customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3–7+ years in a manufacturing quality role.
  • Experience in custom fabrication, heat exchangers, HVAC, or similar industries preferred.
  • Proven experience leading PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Strong background in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • PFMEA, Control Plans, NCR/CAR/CAPA systems.
  • Blueprint reading (GD&T preferred).
  • Process flow mapping and inspection/test planning.

Responsibilities

  • Identify CTQ characteristics and ensure proper controls.
  • Drive risk-based thinking per ISO 9001.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify variation and risk.

Location

This position will be primarily based out of our Mesa I facility located at 4712 S Ellsworth Rd, Mesa, AZ 85212. Though pending business needs could slide to other AZ sites.

Position Description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for driving product and process quality across manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role owns quality planning, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives, with a strong emphasis on PFMEA, control plans, and root cause analysis.

This individual will act as a technical leader, partnering with Engineering, Production, and Quality Control to prevent defects, reduce variation, and improve overall process capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Quality Planning & Risk Management
    • Lead development and maintenance of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
    • Create and maintain Control Plans aligned to PFMEA risks and CTQs
    • Identify Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) characteristics and ensure proper controls are implemented
    • Support APQP / PPAP activities (as applicable to customer/program requirements)
    • Drive risk-based thinking aligned with ISO 9001
  • 2. Process Control & Improvement
    • Analyze manufacturing processes (assembly, expansion, brazing, testing, etc.) to identify variation and risk
    • Establish and improve in-process inspection strategies
    • Support implementation of Quality at the Source (QAS) systems
    • Monitor and improve process capability (Cp, Cpk where applicable)
    • Lead initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and customer escapes
  • 3. Nonconformance & Root Cause Analysis
    • Lead investigations for NCRs, CARs, and customer complaints (RMA/SCAR)
    • Utilize structured problem-solving tools:
      • 8D
      • 5 Whys
      • Fishbone (Ishikawa)
    • Ensure effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented and sustained
    • Track and report trends in quality data
  • 4. Inspection & Testing Oversight
    • Develop and validate inspection methods and acceptance criteria
    • Ensure alignment with internal standards (e.g., GQ manual) and customer specifications
    • Support calibration requirements and measurement system effectiveness (MSA preferred)
    • Collaborate with QC team to ensure inspection plans are effective and practical
  • 5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Engineering on:
      • Design reviews
      • Tolerance analysis
      • Process feasibility
    • Work with Production to ensure:
      • Standard work is followed
      • Quality expectations are clearly understood
      • Support supplier quality and incoming inspection activities
  • 6. Compliance & Audits
    • Ensure compliance with:
      • ISO 9001
      • ASME (if applicable)
      • AWS (brazing/welding standards)
      • DFARS / customer-specific requirements
    • Support internal and external audits
    • Assist in development and maintenance of procedures and work instructions

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • OR equivalent experience (strongly considered)
  • 3–7+ years in a manufacturing quality role
  • Experience in custom fabrication, heat exchangers, HVAC, or similar industries preferred
  • Proven experience leading PFMEA and Control Plans
  • Strong background in root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Technical Skills (Must Have)
    • PFMEA (development + facilitation)
    • Control Plans
    • NCR/CAR/CAPA systems
    • Blueprint reading (GD&T preferred)

  • Must pass medical pre-screen with physical and background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to bend, pull, push, lift up to 50lbs and be comfortable standing and walking through out most of shift.

English and Spanish are the Arizona team’s top two primary languages. Fluency, consisting of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in both is recommended. Ancillary would be full comprehension in English with base understanding in Spanish while continuing to learn and develop the communication skill set overtime.
