Job summary

Amcor Specialty Cartons Americas LLC in North Carolina is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead quality system management, SPC, and continuous improvement while partnering with production to ensure first-time quality across the line.

This role emphasizes collaboration with customer quality teams, support for new product introductions, and adherence to ISO 9001 and related standards; ideal candidates have 3–5 years of manufacturing quality experience and Lean/Six Sigma expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and similar quality systems.
  • Proven track record in Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain quality procedures and documentation for compliance.
  • Establish SPC, inspection plans, and quality checkpoints across production.
  • Lead CI initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen practices.
  • Support customer quality teams, respond to QA requests, and drive NPI requirements.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Quality System Management
  • * Develop and update quality procedures, work instructions, and documentation to ensure compliance with customer and/or regulatory requirements
  • * Conduct internal audits and manage corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes
  • * Lead quality system improvements and ensure continuous compliance with customer specifications
Manufacturing Quality Control
  • * Establish and maintain statistical process control (SPC) systems for critical manufacturing processes
  • * Design and implement inspection plans, test procedures, and quality checkpoints throughout the production line
  • * Investigate and resolve quality issues, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • * Collaborate with production teams to ensure first-time quality and reduce defect rates
Continuous Improvement
  • * Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using IWS, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
  • * Identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction in manufacturing operations
  • * Develop and implement improvement projects that enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve efficiency
  • * Train and mentor production staff on quality tools and problem-solving techniques
  • * Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality and improvement initiatives
Customer Interaction and Support
  • * Develop and maintain strong relationships with customer quality teams
  • * Respond to customer corrective action requests and quality notifications
  • * Present quality performance data and improvement plans to customers
  • * Support new product introduction (NPI) activities with customer quality requirements
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field
  • * 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • * Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, TS16949, or similar)
  • * Proven track record in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)
Technical Skills
  • * Strong knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality tools (FMEA, control plans, MSA)
  • * Proficiency with quality management software and databases
  • * Experience with measurement systems and calibration programs
  • * Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production systems

  • * Experience with ERP systems
  • * Strong Office 365 skills to develop and maintain SharePoint sites

This position reports to the Quality Manager and works closely with Manufacturing, Product Development, and Customer Service teams. The role involves regular interaction with external customers and suppliers.
