About The Role

Superior Metals Manufacturing is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our team in Chittenango, NY. This role is essential for maintaining manufacturing excellence and customer satisfaction. The Quality Engineer will collaborate with internal departments, suppliers, and customer representatives to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulations. You will lead our Business Management System (BMS) and Advanced Quality System (AQS), driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of quality.

Location: Chittenango, NY (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $80k+ (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary quality assurance contact for assigned customers, ensuring proactive communication and resolution of quality issues.
  • Lead and coordinate quality efforts across engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to meet customer expectations.
  • Conduct and support customer audits, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Review and approve customer contracts, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and monitor CAPA plans to address nonconformances.
  • Participate in risk assessments, process improvements, and root cause analysis.
  • Promote continuous improvement through lean methodologies and quality training.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards and advancements in quality systems.
  • Support internal and external audits (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP, ISO17025, A2LA).
  • Contribute to quality metrics and reporting.
  • Assist in developing operational training and ensure employee compliance.
  • Support quote reviews, inspection planning, and shop floor instructions.
  • Support operations outside of regular hours as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in quality engineering within manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of standards like AS9100, NADCAP, ISO17025, A2LA.
  • Proficiency with root cause analysis, FMEA, 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, control plans.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/QMS systems.
  • Ability to work on-site in Chittenango, NY, with occasional extended hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in aerospace, investment casting, or metal manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, TOC.
  • Experience with contract review, inspection planning, regulatory compliance.
  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA, etc.) are a plus.

Key Relationships

  • Collaborate with Quality Manager, Lab Manager, Sales, Process Engineers, and Manufacturing Leaders.
  • Represent quality interests in customer and internal interactions.
