Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. in Irvine seeks a Quality Engineer to partner with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing processes, support daily quality activities, and interface with customers as the quality liaison.

You will drive internal audits, maintain ISO 9001:2015/AS9100D compliance, perform root cause analysis, and lead quality initiatives with Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing.

Travel to customer and supplier sites as required; utilize AI tools to enhance productivity and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field is required.
• 3+ years in the aerospace industry.
• Experience in high mix, low volume environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D.
• Ability to lead root-cause analysis and CAPA.
• Strong communication skills.

Job description

The Quality Engineer will work with cross-functional teams to continually improve manufacturing processes, support daily Quality activities including internal and external audits, and interface with customers as the Quality liaison.

How You Will Do It:

This position will support various aspects of the Quality Management System ensuring world-class systems and performance through continual focus on process improvement, supplier development and customer interaction.

Support a culture of Continuous Improvement and positive Customer Experiences. Substantial knowledge of AS9100D or ISO 9001:2015 and formal problem-solving tools is essential.

Work closely with Engineering to ensure that designs meet applicable quality requirements.

Plan and perform internal quality audits and execute action items.

Lead quality initiatives, develop and facilitate quality teams.

Provide quality function support by working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to manage customer relations, expectations, needs and satisfaction

Independently drive and direct actions with departmental groups to maintain MRB and RMA issues.

Drive key quality performance metrics: DPPM, OTD, Cost of Quality, Customer Scorecards, Internal Audit Risk and Effectiveness, Supplier Performance, Contract Review.

Travel to customer and supplier locations as required.

Other duties and tasks as required.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs

What We Look For:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or equivelent level of experience

3 plus years working in the aerospace industry.

Previous experience in a high mix, low volume job shop.

Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D Quality Management System processes.

Detailed knowledge of aerospace quality requirements and specifications.

Proven track record of partnering with manufacturing via applying Engineering and Quality expertise to improve quality, reduce cost, improve lead-time and drive efficiencies.

Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate on technical topics.

Extensive experience with root cause analysis and corrective action.

Knowledge of auditing AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015 Quality standards.

Experience with formal quality and operations systems.

Solid Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing knowledge.

Capable of reviewing and interpreting drawings, contracts / PO’s, and applicable processing standards.

Proficient in the use of digital/analog measuring instruments, e.g., micrometers, calipers, linear and dial gauges, height gauges, and a visual comparator.

Skilled at performing First Article inspections and generating FAIR per AS9102 requirements.

Proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
