Job summary

Adient US LLC is seeking a Quality Engineer to coordinate and perform quality functions for automotive seating programs. You will lead continuous improvement projects, prepare PPAP submissions, resolve supplier and customer quality issues, and support PFMEA updates.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (candidates may still be pursuing their degree) with ISO/TS 16949, Continuous Improvement, Total Quality Management, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, DOE, and SPC knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints (GD&T) and write routine reports.
  • Strong knowledge of SPC techniques and applications, including DOE and MSA.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate continuous improvement of Production Quality Deliverables (RTY, Craftsmanship, RPPM, CPPM, SPPM, Warranty/JD Power).
  • Prepare PPAP packages for product submissions and obtain approvals.
  • Resolve customer and supplier quality issues using Adient methods (Kepner-Tregoe, 8-D).
  • Conduct gage studies (Gage R&R, Bias, Linearity, Stability).
  • Develop and update control, inspection, and containment plans.
  • Support PFMEA updates and use customer systems.
  • Perform capability studies and document for special characteristics.
  • Mentor team on statistical applications and techniques.
  • Interface with customers as single point of contact for issue resolution.
  • Coordinate supplier AQP deliverables and ensure on-time completion.
  • Travel to customer sites 10-25%.

Job description

Overview

The Quality Engineer coordinates, administers, and performs quality functions of an engineering and technical nature to ensure product quality and reliability at minimum quality costs. This position assumes a responsible leadership role in the successful launch of new programs, serves as the main quality point of contact for intracompany and external customers, and leads technical support and resolution of quality-related issues.

Responsibilities
  • The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring continuous improvement in all Production Quality Deliverables (e.g., RTY, Craftsmanship, RPPM, CPPM, SPPM, and Warranty/JD Power).
  • Prepare PPAP packages for product submissions and approval by appropriate customer personnel. Obtain approval of submission packages from the Product Service Manager or Quality Manager prior to submission to the customer.
  • Ensure customer and supplier quality issues are resolved using Adient problem-solving methods (Kepner-Tregoe, 8-D, etc.).
  • Perform gage studies (Gage R&R, Bias, Linearity, and Stability) before a gage is approved for production use or following a product change, when applicable.
  • Develop and update control plans, inspection plans, and containment plans as required.
  • Support the Manufacturing Engineer in updating the PFMEA as required.
  • Utilize all customer-specific systems.
  • Conduct capability studies, ensuring they are properly performed, documented for special characteristics, and meet internal requirements (or that a written customer deviation is obtained).
  • Support the continuous improvement of Operation Description Sheets (ODS).
  • Identify and utilize appropriate statistical tools. Mentor team members on proper statistical applications and techniques.
  • Assess and approve post-SOP supplier PPAPs.
  • Interface with assigned external customers as the single point of contact for issue resolution.
  • Coordinate the preparation and on-time delivery of supplier AQP deliverables.
  • Ensure completion of all customer-specific advanced quality planning requirements.
  • Promote strong customer relations by consistently providing premier customer satisfaction through a professional and friendly demeanor, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to help at all times.
  • Resolve customer issues with a high sense of urgency by providing prompt responses, facilitating customer interactions, and coordinating sorting/rework activities at customer sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.
  • Occasional travel to support customer sites (10-25%).
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (candidates may still be pursuing their degree) or equivalent experience. Specific education and training in Quality disciplines are required, including, at a minimum: ISO/TS 16949, Continuous Improvement, Total Quality Management, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, DOE, and SPC.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, drawings/blueprints (including GD&T), and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong knowledge of SPC techniques and applications, including DOE and MSA.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs. Ability to create visual aids for communication purposes.
  • Strong time management skills and customer focus.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to determine root causes.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in manufacturing processes preferred.
Experience
  • Manufacturing experience is required, with automotive seating mechanisms experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Welding (GMAW and Laser) and Assembly processes.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Quality Technician and/or Quality Engineer role, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment; three (3) years of automotive Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 supplier experience preferred.
  • Must have a consistent employment record, including good attendance, and be capable of adapting to a participative team environment.
