Responsibilities

  • Drive quality improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve processes.
  • Support AS9100/ISO 9001 quality management system maintenance.
  • Monitor product performance through metrics and initiate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, operations, and quality teams; support audits and customer visits.
  • Assist in software upgrades and restoration of underutilized equipment.
  • Mentor and coach teammates; manage multiple projects with effective delegation.

Job description

Kelly Engineering is seeking a Quality Engineer to join one of our leading clients in the Chemical / Materials manufacturing industry at their Havre de Grace, MD plant.

Role Overview
  • We are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to help get critical equipment and processes back on track, with a focus on software upgrades and restoring full utilization of key assets. This role requires someone who is computer-savvy, detail-oriented, and comfortable speaking up when something does not look or feel right from a quality or production standpoint. The ideal candidate understands both Quality and Production environments and is someone the team can eventually fold in permanently.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives, including defect reduction efforts related to supplier issues, in-house processes, and process capability gaps
  • Apply technical engineering discipline in a high-volume engineered materials / adhesives manufacturing environment
  • Support the maintenance, improvement, and sustainability of the AS9100 Quality Management System (ISO 9001 / AS9100 experience highly valued)
  • Monitor product performance through operational metrics and initiate corrective action programs for unfavorable trends
  • Support external auditors and customer visits/meetings (formal auditing experience not required)
  • Serve as Quality liaison to Customer Support, Operations, Technical Services, and Sales
  • Support Calibration and Receiving Inspection processes and teams
  • Actively participate in Safety improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to software upgrades and restoration of underutilized equipment
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills with effective decision-making

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience (4+ preferred)
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems
  • Experience using Six Sigma tools, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and chemical and/or mechanical testing
  • Computer-savvy with strong attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to speak up when quality or process issues arise
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
  • Experience in aerospace chemicals, coatings, plastics, adhesives, or composites
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
