Job summary

Prysmian is seeking a Quality Engineer in Illinois to assure product quality from manufacture to shipment. You will report to the Quality Manager and lead QA programs, audits, and continuous improvement efforts in a high-performance manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in manufacturing quality, experience with ISO 9001:2015, and strong skills in SPC, Gauge R&R, VSM, and PFMEA. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; HS diploma or GED accepted with strong relevant experience.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing quality-focused role.
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 program.
  • Knowledge of Gauge R&R, SPC, VSM, and Control Plans.
  • Experience developing SOPs, work instructions and other quality documents.
  • Experience with PFMEA and risk management.

  • Consider energy efficiency in equipment purchasing and installation.
  • Operate in an ISO environment with related requirements.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Job description

About the role:

The Quality Engineer will be responsible to assure that all products produced and shipped conform to all applicable specifications and quality levels established by the company and the customer.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer is responsible to establish, implement, direct, and maintain Quality Assurance and Scrap Control programs and procedures throughout the various stages of manufacturing to assure a finished product with the highest quality possible while keeping material scrap at a minimum. This position is also responsible for maintaining the plant's ISO initiative and for direct contact with customers and UL representatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform all duties conformance to the appropriate safety standards.
  • Support and maintain all procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Program.
  • Maintain database to provide analyzed data reports as necessary to aid in production control, as well as compliance with established product specifications for customers.
  • Manage the Internal Audit Process and the Customer Claims Process.
  • Oversee calibration systems for all equipment needing internal or external calibration services.
  • Review and compare all published General Cable Corporation design specifications, customer, UL, and CSA specifications and maintain quality levels for internal and customer review.
  • Conduct audits for all test equipment and manufacturing equipment for conformance with corporate safety regulations.
  • Interface with customer and regulatory agency inspection representatives during scheduled and non-scheduled plant visits. Develop a thorough knowledge of the documentation associated with the various inspections and communicate to the plant.
  • Investigate returned materials due to quality complaints as requested and insure the necessary corrective action is initiated to prevent recurrence.
  • Consider energy efficiency in the purchase, upgrading and installation of equipment.
  • Required to operate in an ISO environment which may have specific requirements related to quality, safety, environmental or energy management.
  • Perform other reasonable assigned tasks by Direct Management and Customers.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology or a relevant field (Strong relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered must have HS Diploma or GED at the minimum).
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality focused role.
  • A results driven individual who has demonstrated ability working in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of process controls and product quality planning techniques such as Gauge R&R, SPC, VSM, and Control Plans.
  • Must have experience developing SOP’s, work instructions and other supporting documents to address process and ISO requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in conducting risk management activities including Process Diagram, Cpk/Ppk studies and PFMEA.
  • Must be able to manage multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a day in and day out basis.
  • Must be able to motivate, communicate and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Critical thinker, with excellent analytical abilities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid planning, leadership, and administrative skills.
  • High energy, demonstrates urgency and fast pace.
  • Good understanding of business principles and practices; can effectively manage the manufacturing function with a bottom line result.
