Job summary

Nucor is seeking a cross-functional Quality Engineer to partner with division teams and NBT, ensuring that MES-enabled processes protect product quality and operational integrity. You will translate business needs into system requirements, configure MES/ERP rules, and create tests and documentation.

The role requires a 4-year degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science and about 2 years MES experience, with travel ~75% to support divisions. Safety and compliance are emphasized throughout the role.

• 2 years' experience working in a MES.

Responsibilities

• Cross-functional Quality Engineer partnering with division teams and NBT to ensure business systems, processes, and data interact in ways that protect product quality, customer outcomes, and operational integrity.
• Translate business intent and real-world manufacturing behavior into clear requirements, configuration guidance, and test scenarios that reflect downstream impacts and accurate failure modes.
• Develop aligned business processes with steel divisions and product group locations, translate needs into functional system requirements, and configure rule sets within MES and/or ERP applications.
• Create testing scenarios/scripts, execute testing and validate outcomes.
• Create documentation and facilitate training for internal and external customers/users.
• Provide hands-on support for division teammates throughout system implementation project cycle.

Basic Job Functions:

This role serves as a cross‑functional Quality Engineer partnering with division teams and NBT to ensure business systems, processes, and data interact in ways that protect product quality, customer outcomes, and operational integrity. The Quality Engineer applies a quality lens to systems engineering—connecting sales, planning, production, quality control, shipment, and returns—by translating business intent and real‑world manufacturing behavior into clear requirements, configuration guidance, and test scenarios that reflect downstream impacts and accurate failure modes.

• Facilitate discussions with steel making divisions and product group locations to develop aligned business processes, identify business needs, translate into functional system requirements, and create and configure rule sets within MES and/or ERP applications.
• Create testing scenarios/scripts execute testing and validate outcomes.
• Create documentation and facilitate training for both internal and external customers/users.
• Provide hands‑on support for division teammates throughout system implementation project cycle.
• Order Dressing and Quality are the primary focus areas but coordination across all teams.

This position requires travel approximately 75% to support other divisions.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor Business Technology (NBT) will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).

Minimum Qualifications:

• 4-year degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or equivalent experience.
• 2 years' experience working in a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge and practical application of standard steel specifications.
• 1+ year(s) of experience programming and/or configuring within an MES or equivalent.
• Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub, Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate analysis, documentation, or requirements gathering
