Job summary

Supplier Quality Engineer

Reports to: Quality Manager

Work Location: Clear Lake, SD

Job Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer is the Point of Contact (POC) for supplier quality issues. This role verifies non-conformance of material at receiving inspection and communicates with the product team and supplier to resolve. The Supplier Quality Engineer coordinates with buyers related to supplier corrective actions (SCAR) and tracks responses. This role assists with daily scheduling of priorities in receiving inspection.

Essential Job Functions
  • Works with receiving inspection personnel to verify non-conformances at receipt of material.
  • Serves as POC between Tech Ord and suppliers for any quality issues.
  • Issues and tracks Supplier Corrective Actions (SCAR).
  • Determines and builds timelines to resolve supplier issues and verifies effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Conducts supplier visits to perform audits, address ongoing issues including product validation.
  • Performs audits of supplier QMS and manufacturing processes.
  • Works with quality engineering staff and suppliers when automated inspection equipment (AIE) and/or measurement systems evaluation (MSE) are required.
  • Works with suppliers to perform first article inspections, both at supplier facilities and at Tech Ord.
  • Supports purchasing personnel with process to qualify new suppliers.
  • Works with quality engineering staff to understand supplier quality requirements flowed from contract to supplier and ensure compliance.
  • Regular attendance is required to minimize disruptions or delays in production workflows.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.
  • Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 4+ years work experience in a similar or related role.
  • Background in quality assurance process and/or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with common measuring instruments as well as conventional and geometric tolerance is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word; ability to learn and become proficient in our internal computer programs and applications.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize workload as well as work independently to accomplish tasks using time management skills with minimal supervision.
  • A valid driver’s license is required to travel as needed both inside and outside the facility.
  • Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 9001) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, problem-solving skills Lean Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effectiveness Analysis (FMEA)) is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Lifting of 10 pounds is required. Must be able to move materials up to 50 pounds with assistance by lifting, pushing, or pulling.
  • Bending, squatting and/or kneeling are required to move materials as well as to perform other duties such as filing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and explosives.
  • Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.
  • Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing, including undergarments, to mitigate the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
