Job summary

Avantor seeks a Quality Engineer in California to develop and maintain quality systems, perform inspection, testing, and statistical analysis to ensure product and process quality.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D and Engineering to transfer new products, drive continuous improvement, and participate in audits while maintaining meticulous documentation and SPC reviews.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related discipline.
  • 0-3 years experience in quality engineering role in chemical, rubber, or plastic industries preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Improvement Associate or Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt is desirable; knowledge of ISO 9000/AS9100; SAP 4/HANA; LEAN/Six Sigma; DOE; validation processes; Minitab.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Quality System continually.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify statistical methods relevant to the manufacturing process.
  • Drive continual improvement to enhance the Quality System.
  • Assist in developing training to raise quality awareness.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D and Engineering for new product transfers.
  • Participate in audits and close audit findings with cross-functional teams.
  • Create and maintain quality documentation; review SPC for products.

Under general supervision, the Quality Engineer will develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems/protocols. Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment. Conduct quality assurance tests and performing statistical analysis to assess the level of control and manage product quality risks.

What we're looking for:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related discipline.
  • Experience: 0-3 years experience in quality engineering role in chemical, rubber, or plastic industries preferred
Desired Qualifications
  • ASQ Certified Quality Improvement Associate or Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000/ AS9100.
  • Knowledge of SAP 4/HANA ERP System.
  • Working knowledge and experience with LEAN, Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Working knowledge in Design of Experiments (DOE), and ability to manage implementation of improvements.
  • Experience with validation processes including TM validation, manufacturing process validation, cleaning validation.
  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical software strongly desirable.
  • Understanding of statistical process and quality control principle.

  • Performs root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related issues.
  • Identifies statistical methods relevant to the manufacturing process.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the Quality System.
  • Assists with developing training to build quality awareness throughout the company.
  • Interfaces with Manufacturing, Research and Development and Engineering to ensure transfer of newly developed products that are in accordance with approved data and analysis.
  • Participates in audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and works with cross functional teams to determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assists in creation and maintaining quality documentation.
  • Reviews Statistical Process Control (SPC) for products and identifies potential process improvements.
  • Evaluates impact of process improvement effort and manufacturing deviation on process validation and product design.
  • Demonstrates good communication and project/time management skills.
  • Collaborates with team members to support company goals.
  • Develops experiments by applying full and fractional factorial techniques (DOE).
  • Must be regular and punctual in attendance and adhere to all NuSil employee handbook policies.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is $62,500.00 - $100,625.00 Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
