Job summary

Avantor is seeking a Senior Test Engineer in Barrington, IL to write and execute test protocols, collaborate with Product Development, and troubleshoot production and quality issues. This is a full-time onsite role requiring strong test engineering skills and leadership.

The candidate will develop test plans, oversee lab tests on tubes, pumps, and drives, and ensure compliance with ISO Phase-Gate processes while advancing product quality and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physics required.
  • 5–7 years of product testing experience.
  • Proficiency with test equipment.
  • Knowledge of DOE, FMEA, Weibull, MTBF, ALT, Environmental and EMC testing.
  • Understanding of Embedded systems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans to verify and validate specifications.
  • Assign Lab staff to perform tests on Tubing, Pumps, and electronic drives.
  • Serve as Testing's representative on New Product Development programs.
  • Ensure all testing requirements align with ISO Phase-Gate processes.
  • Document test methods and train team members on testing procedures.
  • Conduct tests and record data using appropriate test equipment and environments.

Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Sr. Test Engineer to write and perform tests by the development of test protocols and the scheduling of tests to meet company goals.

This position requires frequent participation, communication, and alignment with the Product Development Team to ensure on-schedule completion of all program test deliverables and they will work with other team members to troubleshoot production issues and product quality issues.

This is a full-time onsite position at our Barrington, IL location.

How you will thrive and create an impact:

Develop test plans to verify and validate all relevant Engineering and Marketing specifications.

Assign Lab staff to perform a variety of tests on Tubing, Pumps, and electronic drives.

Serve as Testing's representative on New Product Development programs. Champion the transformation of product requirements into test plans.

Ensure team members execute all testing requirements per ISO Phase-Gate Process.

Develop and document test methods (based on ISO, ASTM, MIL Standards) and train team members on the performance of tests.

Stay abreast of the Fluid Handling pump landscape and procure competitive products. Perform competitive product performance tests, teardowns, and evaluations.

Assign team members to troubleshoot and support production issues and advise management of product defects and offer solutions.

Conduct tests and record data for components, breadboards, prototypes, and end products utilizing engineering test equipment under ambient and special environmental conditions.

Prepare test plans and related data sheets, graphs and charts. Write detailed test reports and test results memos relating to individual test requests.

Conduct motor tests that include torque, RPM, voltage and current measurements. Requires use of torque bench, digital and optical tachometers, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters and digital voltmeters.

Conduct tests to determine attributes, performance and life of various types of pumps, drives and other products.

Conduct testing of units submitted for regulatory agency approvals and assist in demonstrating conformance to regulatory agency specifications.

Assists project engineers in test and documentation of project elements ranging from components to end products as may be necessary.

Recommend additional equipment as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:
Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Physics.

Experience:

5-7 years relevant experience in product testing.

Additional Qualifications:

Proficiency with test equipment.

Working knowledge of the following: Design of Experiments, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Weibull Analysis, Mean Time Before Failure Analysis, Accelerated Life Testing, Environmental Testing, and EMC Testing.

Understanding of Embedded systems.

Motivated and able to work with a minimum of direct supervision.

Demonstrated leadership ability and p rofessional demeanor.

Active and participant in team settings.

Enjoys all aspects of technology (enjoys learning).

Demonstrated ability to "influence and align" in team settings.

Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works within deadlines or other time essential constraints.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

50% laboratory environment; requires frequent walking and standing.

50% office environment; requires sitting at a desk for extended periods

Ability to lift to 45lbs.
