The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for properly identifying, maintaining, and updating condition coding for all Katzman Produce products. They will have a comprehensive understanding of all quality conditions and determine proper coding based on aging inventory. The role involves conducting in-house inspections of incoming and existing products, partnering with Buyers to determine if USDA inspections are required, coding inbound products, and updating condition codes on current inventory.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Prepare and maintain work records and reports of inspection results to ensure compliance with local and federal laws and regulations.
- Audit inbound and outbound shipments for quality, and make discretionary decisions on older inventory.
- Conduct daily handoffs with relieving Quality Control personnel.
- Follow through on inspections using calibration equipment, completing work with urgency according to company procedures and guidelines.
- Notify Sales Team and Buyers of products with quality issues.
- Collaborate with Sales, Foremen, Supervisors, and Warehouse staff to improve quality control measures.
- Follow all safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, work safely, and report unsafe conditions or accidents immediately.
- Operate powered equipment safely when required.
- Facilitate customer interactions and meet customer needs.
- Maintain detailed commodity-specific product knowledge.
- Train and cross-train team members as needed.
- Update operations on USDA inspections and sensitive customer acknowledgments (e.g., National/Blue Apron).
- Coordinate USDA inspections.
- Emphasize accuracy in coding and encourage second opinions for uncertainties.
- Perform periodic spot checks of inventory and update quality codes.
- Print daily reports of incoming loads, verify condition codes, and perform spot checks.
