Job summary

NCSL International is hiring a Quality Control Technician II in Milwaukee for concrete quality testing across plant, field, and central lab environments.

You will perform field testing per ASTM/ACI/WisDOT, prepare specimens, document results, and coordinate with contractors and plant personnel to ensure quality and timely communication. A technical background and 1–3 years of field experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of field experience in the industry.
• Technical background preferred, with ability to utilize electronic data collection systems and basic math skills.
• Obtain and maintain required certifications as assigned by the company.

Responsibilities

• Perform concrete quality control testing and provide responsive service to contractor customers to support placements and timely communication between jobsite and plant.
• Conduct field testing of fresh concrete per ASTM, ACI, WisDOT and company procedures, including slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, and prep of strength test specimens.
• Observe test results and communicate any out-of-spec findings to the contractor, QC team, and plant personnel.
• Serve as a testing contact for contractor customers during placements, coordinating testing support and technical assistance as needed.
• Document field test results and concrete sample information using company forms and electronic systems.
• Prepare and protect concrete test specimens for scheduled strength testing per procedures.
• Coordinate with QC, dispatch, plant personnel, drivers, and contractor reps to resolve jobsite concerns efficiently.
• Assist with mix evaluations, troubleshooting, sampling, and other QC activities as training progresses.
• Maintain testing equipment, supplies, vehicles, and work areas; report calibration or repair needs.

Job description

Quality Control Technician II

Perform concrete quality tests at the plant, in the field, and in the central lab.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform concrete quality control testing and provide responsive, professional concierge service to contractor customers, helping support successful concrete placements and timely communication between the jobsite and plant.
• Perform field testing of fresh concrete in accordance with applicable ASTM, ACI, WisDOT, and company procedures, including slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, and preparation of strength test specimens.
• Perform testing consistent with the practices covered under ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I and/or WisDOT HTCP Portland Cement Concrete Technician I (PCCTEC I) certification. Obtain and maintain required certifications as assigned by the company.
• Observe concrete placement conditions and test results, identify results that fall outside project or mix requirements, and promptly communicate findings to appropriate contractor, quality control, and plant personnel.
• Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for contractor customers during concrete placements, providing testing support, answering questions within the scope of the position, and helping coordinate communication when adjustments or additional technical assistance are needed.
• Accurately document field test results, concrete sample information, placement conditions, and other required quality control data using company forms and electronic systems.
• Make, identify, protect, transport, cure, and prepare concrete test specimens for scheduled strength testing in accordance with applicable procedures.
• Coordinate with Quality Control, dispatch, plant personnel, drivers, and contractor representatives to support concrete quality and resolve jobsite concerns efficiently.
• Assist with concrete mix evaluations, troubleshooting, sampling, special testing, and other quality control activities as training and experience progress.
• Maintain testing equipment, supplies, vehicles, and work areas in clean, organized, and serviceable condition, and report equipment requiring calibration, repair, or replacement.

Position Details

• Full-time position; hours may be adjusted during the winter season.
• Primary work locations are in Milwaukee, with travel to jobsites as needed.
• PPE and a company vehicle are provided for jobsite travel. Candidates must maintain a clean driving record and be able to navigate to various locations.
• 1-3 years of field experience in the industry.
• Technical background preferred, with the ability to utilize electronic data collection systems and basic math skills.
• Compensation: $24-$27 per hour.
