Position Overview

Provide inspection, testing services and documentation for our facilities and projects. May perform general skilled or unskilled construction related activities for gravel pits and field products.

Wage: $16 to $21 per hour dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)
  • Use accepted methods to inspect, sample and test aggregates, asphalt and other materials for the purposes of quality control both in a laboratory and field environment.
  • Sample and test mixtures to stay in compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance.
  • Prepare and record accurate information; maintain test results database.
  • Follow quality control plans and guidelines as assigned.
  • Communicate with the production plants and field representatives regarding quality control and production.
  • Ensure safety work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tolls and equipment for the task.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safety working procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of Colorado Procedures (CP’s) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
  • Perform general cleaning of work areas.
  • Regular and timely attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Knowledge relative to all field and lab procedures.
  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand and power tools, including but not limited to hand shovel, pick, construction bar, rake, broom, and other hand-held power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Regular and on-time attendance required.

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • One (1) year construction or quality control experience preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must posses and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and swing shifts when needed due to contractual obligations.
  • Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematic calculations
  • Must have or acquire basic computer skills and be able to work with e-mail and spreadsheets.
  • Must have or acquire an understanding of quality control concepts and DOT regulations such as sampling frequencies, methods, quality requirements, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
  • Demonstrate a strong dedication to meeting the needs and expectations of our internal and external customers.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and operating various hand and power tools, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and bending over for extended periods of time.
  • Requires reaching, crawling, climbing, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Often requires lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 90 pounds. Sometimes requires working at heights.
  • Requires correct vision and hearing within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
