Job summary

Titan Coatings, the leading coil and extrusions coatings manufacturer in the United States, seeks a Quality Control Technician for 2nd shift. You will be the final quality gate, approving or rejecting batches based on viscosity, color, gloss, and film appearance, ensuring products meet customer specs and standards.

Reporting to the QC Manager, you will perform drawdown panel prep, calibrate spectrophotometers, maintain records in Datacor, and support customer complaint investigations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in quality control or lab testing in coatings or chemicals.
• HS diploma; associate degree preferred.
• Proficient with color measurement instruments and viscosity testing.
• Able to perform drawdown panel prep and standard coatings tests.
• Knowledge of HSE and quality regulations.
• Strong documentation and real-time record keeping.
• Team player with good communication and problem solving.
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, PPE, SDS for all materials.
• Lab housekeeping and 5S standards maintained every shift.
• Batch approval and hold/release testing: viscosity, grind fineness, color, gloss, weight per gallon, film appearance.
• Drawdown panel preparation: substrate selection, coating application, cure per bake schedule.
• Spectrophotometer operation, calibration verification, and color standard library maintenance.
• Clean check evaluation for filling operations; approve or reject samples promptly.
• In-process quality checks on batches during production (viscosity, grind, color, appearance).
• Physical and performance testing: adhesion, flexibility, hardness, film thickness, gloss, chemical resistance.
• Instrument calibration verification at shift start; maintain calibration records.
• Accurate, real-time completion of QC records, batch tickets, and ERP data entry (Datacor).
• Retain sample collection, labeling, and storage per Titan’s retention schedule.
• Customer complaint support: retrieve retain samples, prepare comparison panels, document findings.
• Raw material incoming inspection when required; verify against COAs and specifications.
• Waste and sample disposal per Titan’s procedures and EPA requirements.
• Quarterly inventory counts and department paperwork.
• Notification of equipment failures or out-of-spec conditions to the QC Manager.
