Job summary

Cadillac Asphalt LLC in Troy, MI is seeking a lab technician to perform routine laboratory tests and analyses, prepare reagents, maintain records, and assist with calibration of equipment. You will follow SOPs, wear PPE, and contribute to a safe, productive job site.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to stand long periods, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and strong attention to detail.

  • Maintain accurate records of data and results.
  • Assist in calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Maintain clean lab area and dispose of debris properly.
  • Willingness to work in a team and assist others as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to follow and provide directions.
  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings (Tool Box Talks)
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to the assigned job site in proper work attire ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to all Safety Practices & Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the book of company policies.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses using various analytical instruments and techniques.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical solutions, reagents, and samples according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental data, observations, and results.
  • Assist in the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain clean lab working area after completion of job tasks and dispose of debris properly.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to work with general tools and build prototypes with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time with regular stretch breaks
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing priorities and tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Job Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment screening and testing
  • Strict Adherence to safety requirements, procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies
Physical Demands

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met in Construction/Materials Operations to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to hear and speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required to complete tasks in an efficient and safe manner.

Vision abilities required by this job include color, close, and distance vision, as well as peripheral, depth, and focus perception vision.

This position requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and lifting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

Must be able to carry, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs without assistance

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, based on project needs and demands.

Work Environment

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met in Construction Operations to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work may involve a variety of substances or materials commonly found on the job site like mineral spirits, acetone, denatured alcohol, emulsion, and asphalt.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but may require protective equipment at some facilities.
