Socket.dev in Pennsylvania is seeking a hands-on Quality/Materials Technician to support sand and metal testing, data entry, and shop card management.

You will work under the QC lead, maintain lab equipment, ensure documentation accuracy, and contribute to process improvements while following safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Test sand samples according to procedures and record results.
  • Collect metal samples from furnaces and perform chemical analysis using the spectrometer.
  • Maintain sand testing equipment and QC lab in an orderly fashion.
  • Prepare test bars/coupons and document heat/lot codes for testing.
  • Conduct light dimensional measurements and prepare reports.
  • Issue and process returns and maintain RMA documentation.
  • Train new personnel and ensure adherence to the QMS manual and safety rules.
  • Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, safe work area.

Description

To become proficient in all aspects of Non-Destructive Testing, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, the Quality System, and to understand, comprehend and apply military, material, commercial and customer specifications.

Essential Functions:
  • Sand Testing
  • Collects sand samples internally twice a day as back up. Test samples in accordance with BQC's Sand Testing Procedures. Records all results and appropriate forms and distributes them to operations and QC Management.
  • Sends green sand samples to Green Diamond monthly for further sand testing.
  • Maintains sand testing equipment and QC lab in an orderly fashion.
  • Metal Testing
  • With the assistance of Melt Deck personnel, collects metal samples from all furnaces prior to pouring operations and throughout the shift. Samples are tested on the spectrometer for proper chemical analysis as required. Notifies Melt Deck Leader of any furnaces not conforming to specs.
  • Maintains spectrometer by cleaning and type standardizing daily using ASTM/NIST traceable standard samples.
  • Prepares test bars/coupons, documents heat/lot codes, sends for testing at a qualified lab.
  • Conducts hardness testing of heat-treated material as required, records and documents findings.
  • Maintains metal records as required including but not limited to: Material Certificates, Chemical & Physical results, Heat Treat Certification, Brinell/Hardness testing results, Melt Logs, Pour Temperature Logs.
  • Product Development/Shop Card Data Entry/Shop Order Generation & Distribution
  • Assists leaders in updating and maintaining shop card information as requested.
  • Distribute shop cards within the department as requested.
  • Certification/Testing Reports
  • Collect information from spectrometer, physical testing, and heat treat. Prepare certs and distribute as appropriate.
  • Perform light dimensional measurements/part characteristics analysis, prepare reports, and distribute as appropriate.
  • Returns
  • Issue RMA's to customer as required, completed forms stored and distributed to customer and internal RMA distribution list.
  • Responsible for receipt and disposition of returns from customers.
  • Essential Job Knowledge
  • Understanding of general foundry concepts, language, and scrap defects.
  • Generalized knowledge of process flow and interactions of such.
  • Ability to understand blueprints and their concepts. Basic understanding of G, D, &T.
  • General computer knowledge, extensive use of Excel, Access, Outlook, Adobe, and Odyssey computer programs.
  • General Job Function
  • Check casting quality continuously and work with supervisors to correct problems.
  • Train new personnel in aspects of their job description as assigned by a manager or other relevant authority.
  • Carry out all duties & responsibilities in full accordance with the Company's QMS Manual, policies & procedures.
  • Maintain clean work area.
