Capstone Search Advisors is working on behalf of an established coatings manufacturer in Mentor, Ohio to identify a hands‑on Laboratory Technician to support coating solution preparation and production operations.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in chemistry who enjoys working in a manufacturing laboratory environment. The Lab Technician will prepare coating solutions using various salts and solvents, perform calculations and quality checks, maintain solution inventory, and ensure production has the materials needed to operate without interruption.
The successful candidate will be detail‑oriented, comfortable working with chemicals and laboratory equipment, and able to follow precise written procedures and schedules. Position is slated for 2nd shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare developmental and production coating solutions using specified raw materials, concentrations, and written procedures.
- Accurately weigh and combine salts, solvents, and other raw materials to produce solutions within established specifications.
- Calculate material consumption using Microsoft Excel and charge coating solutions to production jobs.
- Monitor coating solution inventory and proactively identify potential shortages.
- Prepare coating samples and raw materials for shipment.
- Perform quality assurance inspections and testing of coating solutions and raw materials.
- Reconstitute coating solutions to standard concentrations based on specific gravity analysis.
- Follow daily preparation schedules and prioritize work based on production requirements.
- Determine daily raw material requirements for salts, solvents, and other solution components.
- Work proactively with production to ensure adequate solution inventory is available to support at least two shifts of production.
- Calculate required solution quantities and prepare additional material when needed to prevent production interruptions.
- Properly operate and understand the capabilities and limitations of laboratory equipment, including: Scales, Balances, Beakers, Pipettes.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, measurements, and documentation.
- Follow all written work instructions, laboratory procedures, and safety requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized laboratory and storage areas.
- Follow proper chemical handling and laboratory housekeeping practices.
- Safely operate a drum handler and other material‑handling equipment as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of company and product information.
- Work additional hours when necessary to meet production or laboratory deadlines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related field is a plus.
- 1–2 years of experience working in a manufacturing laboratory or similar industrial environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of basic chemistry principles preferred.
- Strong mathematical skills with the ability to perform accurate calculations involving concentrations, quantities, ratios, and measurements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Comfortable working with salts, solvents, and chemical raw materials.
- Ability to accurately measure, weigh, mix, and prepare solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to understand and follow detailed written procedures and work instructions.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a production‑support environment.
