Job summary

CPS Inc. is seeking a hands-on Quality Technician to join a growing specialty coatings manufacturer in Michigan. You will perform acceptance testing on materials, conduct lab tests on films and solutions, and ensure products meet strict quality standards in a collaborative setting.

Your duties include recording results with SPC, communicating findings to production, calibrating instruments, and maintaining organized lab documentation. Training and cross-training across shifts are available.

Qualifications

  • Two years of quality, laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate, repeatable lab testing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in both lab and manufacturing environments.

Job description

Pay: $19.50–$21.00/hour Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, 401(k) with company match, PTO.

Join a growing specialty coatings manufacturer with over 50 years of success that develops innovative roll-to-roll coated products for a variety of industrial markets. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Quality Technician who enjoys laboratory testing, working closely with production, and helping ensure high-quality products in a collaborative manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform acceptance testing on raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products.
  • Conduct laboratory testing on coated films, coating solutions, and incoming raw materials.
  • Perform visual inspections to verify products meet established quality standards.
  • Accurately record test results using Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality documentation systems.
  • Communicate quality results and observations to manufacturing personnel.
  • Generate quality reports and maintain laboratory documentation.
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments using established procedures.
  • Maintain archived samples, testing records, and laboratory files.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow Quality Management System (QMS), safety, environmental, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and problem-solving activities.
  • Cross-train and provide backup support for other Quality Technicians as needed.
  • Train new employees when authorized.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to ensure products consistently meet customer specifications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Quality, Mathematics, or another scientific discipline preferred.
  • Two years of quality, laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate, repeatable laboratory testing.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with production and cross-functional teams.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to pass pre-employment screening.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work throughout both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in coatings, chemical manufacturing, converting, printing, plastics, film, or related manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification.
  • Experience calibrating laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Schedule

Schedule First shift position. Production is generally scheduled Monday through Thursday, with Friday work required as production demands. Shifts may be either 10 or 12 hours depending on workload. 10-hour schedule: 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM 12-hour schedule: 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM Flexibility is required based on production needs.
