Quality Control Technician
Summary:
Inspection and testing of welded products to ensure they meet strict safety codes, engineering designs, and industry standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform visual inspection of units to assure proper welds, compliance to blueprints and compliance to work orders.
- Fill in discrepancies on discrepancy sheets accurately, precisely, and legibly.
- Mark welds which require work.
- Perform visual inspection of painted units and check mill thickness
- Maintain a solid friendly working repour between the Quality Control Department and Manufacturing, Engineering, and employees on the floor
- Clean up of areas and be safety conscious
- Capable of identifying poor structural welds
- Capable of reading blueprint drawings for welds symbols, basic dimensioning of parts and/or jigs & fixtures
- Responsible for inspection of component parts fit and basic dimensioning within the basic trailer assembly
- Responsible for detection, documentation and notification of proper supervisors of improper operations, defective material and questionable conditions and work habits
- Must be capable of setting up and testing any mechanical inspections using proper tools and procedures
- Must be capable of performing non-destructive testing, dimensional checks, blueprint readings, necessary shop mathematics
- Must maintain a system for collections of data and record maintenance
- Responsible for periodic checks of welding machines to verify the machine setting is within prescribed limits for the welding operation being performed
- Must have knowledge of what corrective procedures may be applied when prior improper operations, defective materials, blueprint errors, have occurred and when to report problems to the responsible supervisor
- Encourage and promote the practice of safety and adherence to safety and other company rules
- Encourage and promote the proper operation and care of all equipment and machinery
- Maintain a line of communication between inspection and manufacturing to resolve discrepancies as noted
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Qualifications include:
- Possess High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED Must possess ability and knowledge to confidently read blueprints and weld procedures
- Must have at least 5 years prior knowledge of welding, fabrication and blueprint reading
- Must possess standard knowledge of measuring, hand and power tools and know how to use them
- Must have at least 5 years’ experience in previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required

Working Conditions:
Work is conducted inside and outside during all-weather types.
- Temperatures will be variable according to season and specific work site.
- Tasks may involve moderate to heavy physical labor.
- Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, and lifting are required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in cold and hot weather conditions some part of the time.
- Be able to grip, pull and push heavy objects.
- Ability to work with hands and perform routine lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
