Job summary

AMA-ALU CORP in Hatfield, PA is seeking a Quality Technician to inspect raw materials, in-process and finished goods to ensure conformance with customer and internal specs. You will maintain quality records, contain nonconforming material, and support corrective actions and continuous improvement.

About the Role

The Quality Technician supports AMA-ALU Corporation's quality system by performing in-process and finished-product inspections, verifying product conformance to customer and internal requirements, maintaining accurate quality records, identifying and containing nonconforming material, and supporting corrective-action and continuous-improvement activities. The position works closely with Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Quality leadership to help ensure aluminum food-contact containers and related products are produced safely, consistently, and in accordance with approved specifications.

1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of raw materials, in-process product, and finished goods according to approved specifications and sampling plans.Use inspection and measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, templates, and other approved devices.
• Verify product dimensions, appearance, trim, flange, depth, diameter, wall condition, coating/finish, stacking/nesting, and other characteristics as applicable.Identify common defects including dents, deformation, cracks, splits, pinholes, burrs, sharp edges, contamination, incorrect dimensions, surface defects, mixed product, and packaging errors.
• Place suspect or nonconforming product on hold, identify and segregate affected material, and notify the appropriate Production and Quality personnel.
• Complete inspection records, quality logs, hold tags, traceability records, nonconformance documentation, and related forms accurately and on time.
• Verify lot, batch, material, work-order, and product identification information to support traceability.
• Conduct startup, first-piece, in-process, changeover, and final inspections as required.
• Monitor production processes and communicate trends or recurring defects to Production and Quality leadership.
• Support investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and verification of corrective-action effectiveness.
• Assist with gauge verification, calibration status checks, and control of inspection equipment.
• Support customer complaint investigations and internal quality reviews as assigned.
• Participate in internal audits, GMP inspections, housekeeping inspections, and other quality-system activities.
• Follow document-control requirements and use only current approved specifications, work instructions, forms, and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized inspection area and protect inspection equipment from damage or contamination.
• Follow AMA-ALU Food Safety, GMP, sanitation, safety, PPE, and security requirements.Immediately escape any food-safety, product-safety, quality, traceability, or regulatory concern.Perform other quality-related duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or management.

2. Quality Authority

The Quality Technician is authorized and expected to stop, hold, or escape product or production when there is a reasonable concern that product does not meet approved specifications, may be contaminated, may create a food-safety or product-safety concern, or cannot be properly traced.

3. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and understand product specifications, work instructions, quality standards, and inspection criteria.Basic math skills, including decimals, fractions, measurement conversion, and comparison to tolerances.Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify small visual or dimensional differences.
• Ability to document inspection results clearly, accurately, and legibly.Ability to communicate professionally with Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, and management.
• Ability to recognize when a condition requires escalation rather than independent disposition.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use spreadsheets, quality systems, or electronic records as assigned.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent inspection discipline.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

4. Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3-5 years of quality inspection, manufacturing, food packaging, metal forming, or production experience preferred.
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, or similar measurement tools preferred.
• Knowledge of GMP, food safety, ISO-style quality systems, traceability, nonconforming-product control, or root-cause analysis is preferred.Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.

5. Physical Requirements

• Standing / Walking | Frequently; may stand or walk for extended periods while inspecting production areas and finished goods.
• Sitting | Occasionally to frequently for documentation, data entry, review, and administrative quality work.
• Lifting / Carrying | Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds more frequently, with assistance or mechanical aid used when appropriate.
• Pushing / Pulling | Occasionally, including moving samples, carts, totes, inspection materials, or product containers within safe limits.
• Bending / Stooping / Crouching | Occasionally to inspect lower machine areas, pallets, product, or stored materials.
• Reaching | Frequently at waist and chest level; occasionally above shoulder level.
• Hands / Fingers | Frequent use for handling samples, measuring devices, tools, labels, paperwork, keyboards, and touchscreens.
• Vision | Must be able to perform close visual inspection, distinguish product defects, read gauges and measurements, and review printed/electronic specifications.
• Hearing / Communication | Must be able to communicate in a manufacturing environment and respond to alarms, instructions, and safety communications, with required hearing protection where applicable.
• Stairs / Platforms | Occasionally, where required to access approved production or inspection areas.

6. Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.Exposure may include moving machinery, powered industrial trucks, metal edges, noise, temperature variation, lubricants, cleaning chemicals, and other normal manufacturing conditions.The employee may be required to move between production lines, inspection stations, warehouse areas, and office/quality areas.Required PPE may include safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, cut-resistant gloves, high-visibility apparel, hair/beard restraints, and other PPE based on the task or area.The position requires adherence to Food Safety, GMP, sanitation, contamination-prevention, and foreign-material-control requirements.

7. Safety and Food-Safety Expectations

Never bypass or defeat machine guards or safety devices.Do not reach into moving equipment or perform maintenance activities unless specifically trained and authorized.Follow pedestrian and powered-industrial-truck safety rules.Report unsafe conditions, injuries, near misses, contamination concerns, and quality issues immediately.Protect food-contact product and surfaces from contamination during inspection and handling.Follow hygiene, jewelry, personal-item, illness-reporting, and GMP requirements.
