Job summary

Capital Materials in Columbia, Missouri is seeking a QC Lab Technician to perform inspections, tests and reporting on asphalt and aggregate materials used in paving projects.

The role involves setting up and operating laboratory equipment, calculating properties, and communicating results to the QC Manager and customers. It is a full-time, outdoors position with safety training and possible travel within the region.

Qualifications

• Previous QC experience in a similar setting is a plus but not mandatory.
• Ability to work independently under strict time guidelines.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Subject to drug screening and a medical review exam.
• The employee will work primarily outdoors, exposed to inclement weather and hazards.

Responsibilities

• Provide verbal and/or written test results and reports to the QC Manager.
• Enforce quality control and safety policies.
• Cut core samples from roadway and test in a timely manner.
• Conduct tests on aggregate and asphalt.
• Perform mathematical calculations to verify properties.
• Record test results in a timely manner.
• Report test results to internal teams and customers as required.
• Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.

This position will be located in Columbia, Missouri.The Quality Control Lab Technician performs inspections, checks, and tests for quality of the material to be utilized in the manufacturing of asphalt, ensuring product quality and compliance with applicable specifications.RESPONSIBILITIESProvides verbal and/or written tests results and reports to the QC Manager and staff.Enforce quality control and Company safety policies on all aspects of the workCut core samples from roadway and test in a timely mannerConducts tests on aggregate and asphaltPerform mathematical calculations to verify physical and volumetric propertiesCommunicate daily with QC Technician/Manager and the Roadway TechnicianCalculates pay factors and tonnage totals on daily lab reportsResponsible for set up, adjustment and operation of laboratory/testing equipment.Work around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain materials samples.Record test results in a timely manner.Report and communicate test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required).Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment. Inspect stockpiles for proper construction; inspect haul units for cleanliness; Maintain test data files; assist in investigating and resolving customer technical problems.Demonstrates knowledge of, or the ability to learn, safety rules and equipment including identification of precautions for and emergency response to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards, and asphyxiating, toxic and explosive gases and vapors.Demonstrates good workmanship in a neat and timely manner.Must be able to work in a variety of positions throughout the day including standing, stooping, bending at the waist, at waist level, shoulder height and above the head. The job location is in all areas as required in our geographical work area.Participate as a team member.
