The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality, consistency, and compliance of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods through laboratory testing, production quality verification, and adherence to established quality systems. Working closely with Operations, Technical, and Quality teams, this position has a key role in supporting safe manufacturing operations, continuous improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will be able to perform production line quality checks, collect plant samples, and conduct limited routine laboratory analyses. This position works in a team environment, communicating clearly with various roles in the organization and assisting others. Employing safe work habits in the plant and laboratory are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform production line quality checks, such as auditing production records, verifying package weights, auditing labels, BOM (bill of materials) adherence and ensuring lot-stamping coding and other critical quality equipment is functioning properly. Collect production samples from designated plant areas and transport them to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Conduct wet chemistry analyses, primarily titrations, and perform physical testing including moisture determination, particle size analysis, hardness testing, and other laboratory evaluations. Interpret results against specifications and communicate findings to operations and quality leadership and track non-conformances. Record laboratory analysis data accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support daily operation of Quality Laboratory including maintaining product sample retention program, provide on-call and vacation coverage as needed, raw material data collection/ data review and the routine inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals.
  • Perform routine calibration, verification, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation to ensure reliable analytical results.
  • Support technical projects such as qualification of alternative or current raw material testing as requested.
  • Collaborate with and support plant and technical teams on product or process improvements and non-conformance issues. Participate in continuous improvement and investigation activities as required.
  • Support compliance with ISO 9001 and maintenance of ISO 9001 documentation. Assist with ISO 9001 compliance activities and periodic internal audits. Reviews and provides input into new and revised analytical methods, department work instructions and department procedures. Suggest improvements to procedures, protocols, and practices.
  • Employ safe work habits in the operating plant and laboratory - complying with all applicable site and Solenis safety requirements. Maintain and improve housekeeping standards in assigned areas. Follow all site safety rules and required procedures. Support emergency response activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates or higher education in chemistry or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant laboratory/manufacturing experience may be considered.
Experience
  • 1-3 years of laboratory, quality control, manufacturing, chemical processing, food, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Entry-level candidates with relevant technical education, internships, or laboratory coursework will also be considered.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Familiarity of laboratory procedures and analytical chemistry techniques preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment operations, calibration, and sample preparation preferred.
  • Proactive and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to apply analytical thinking to solve problems and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Understanding safety data sheets and ability to apply appropriate safety measures in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in a collaborative work environment

General Work Environment
  • Chemical manufacturing plant and laboratory setting
  • 12-hour rotating shift
  • Ability to work alternative schedules, overtime, weekends, or holiday coverage as business needs require.
Physical Requirements
  • Maintain strong safety awareness while working in plant and lab environments.
  • Use and maintain required PPE, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and an escape respirator. Contact lenses are not permitted.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and perform job duties for 8+ hours during a 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to walk within the plant, carry samples, and operate a golf cart for sample collection
  • Visual Requirements: The ability to distinguish between colors, shades of color, and variations in brightness is required to perform essential job functions. This includes accurately interpreting color-based laboratory tests, reagents, indicators, labels, instrument displays, quality control materials, and safety warnings.

The expected compensation range for this position is between $43,160.00 and $63,294.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
