Hood Lumber Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor to lead the mill's quality control and saw filing efforts, ensuring products meet industry standards and Hood's quality expectations.

Responsibilities include training, testing, inspection, and process control to drive continuous improvement and maintain compliance with grading rules and specifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
• At least 2 years supervisory/lead experience in manufacturing.
• Quality control experience preferred; lumber manufacturing exposure ideal.
• Knowledge of lumber grading standards and quality processes preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position at Hood Lumber Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include one plywood and three lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest United States.

Basic Purpose

The Quality Control Supervisor provides leadership and oversight of the mill's quality control and saw filing functions to ensure production meets Hood Industries’ quality standards and industry grading requirements. The position is responsible for supporting consistent product quality through effective training, testing, inspection, process control, and continuous improvement.

A Day In The Life

• Supervise quality control team performance by evaluating effective use of quality control tools, processes and documentation. Tools include quality check sheets that evaluate equipment and process performance, quality control devices used to measure optimization and cutting accuracy throughout the sawmill process, and data signifying presence of a quality system at the facility.
• Supervise saw filing team members to ensure adherence to safe and proficient saw filing practices and techniques. The Quality Control Supervisor will work directly with saw filing team members to build a quality control program that evaluates cutting tool performance, filing equipment accuracy, and inventory management.
• Develop, implement, and monitor quality control Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with the Hood Way.
• Ensure that plant production meets Southern Pine Inspection Bureau grading requirements, including size, moisture content, grading standards, etc.) through inspection, testing, and employee quality control training.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate standard operating procedures related to quality control and maintain appropriate record-keeping processes.
• Ensure systems and processes that directly affect quality are current and accurate, including optimization parameters, grade rules, scanning accuracy, and verification processes, and ensure equipment is maintained within required tolerances.
• Serve as the facility's primary representative with lumber inspection agencies and maintain responsibility for TP and ALS quality audits, quality records, internal calibrations, equipment verification, quality check sheets, and compliance requirements.
• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to troubleshoot the root causes of nonconformities or equipment failures that impact cutting accuracy.
• Manage quality control preventive maintenance and coordinate time-and-condition-based calibrations, equipment verifications, and cleaning procedures.

Required Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.
• Quality control experience preferred.
• Knowledge of manufacturing/plant processes required, and lumber manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience with lumber grading standards and quality processes preferred.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
