Job summary

Shapiro & Duncan is seeking a Quality Control Specialist to ensure field work meets design specifications and to audit, track, and witness tests of installed work. The role acts as a liaison among owners, general contractors, and project teams, with duties spanning punch list completion and coordination across departments.

Candidates should have extensive field installation experience (plumbing/HVAC), read blueprints, and possess strong communication and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Familiar with quality control standards, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Understand and read blueprint drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews specifications, general conditions, and owner/GC requirements to ensure installed/completed work meets those requirements.
  • Works under general supervision of Foreman and/or Superintendent.
  • Perform inspections and witness tests as required.
  • Prepare reports and quality records in compliance with procedures of the company and job site.
  • Coordinate areas of QC work with other department's work.
  • Communicate quality control information to all relevant departments.
  • Perform receipt inspections of material.
  • Control measuring and test equipment, as required to ensure accuracy.
  • Track installed footages of installed and Tested work.

Quality Control Specialist

Reports to: Foreman/PM/Superintendents

Job Summary

The Quality Control and Quantity Tracking is an essential part of the organization. This individual works under general jobsite supervision and superintendents to assure projects are meeting design specifications. The QC/QT Specialist will audit, Track and witness the test of installed work. Using prior experience and strong attention to detail, locates potential issues during planning process and prior to installation; when post-install issues are located, provides recommendations for corrective action to field foreman and project management. Manage the completion of punch list and rework by ensuring the 1 st installation is correct Acts as a liaison between Shapiro & Duncan and owners, general contractors, and other parties.

Requirements
  • Able to work multiple shifts and hours, Monday-Friday with occasional overtime during afternoons, evenings and weekends as needed with possible nights. Must be flexible with work schedule.
    • Familiar with quality control standards, concepts, practices, and procedures.
    • Knowledge and understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
    • Understand and read blueprint drawings.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills. Interface effectively, ethically and professionally with all levels of staff, with internal and external executives/managers.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pro Core, Blue Beam, Fieldman etc.).
  • Strong understanding of mathematics.
  • Able to walk, stand, bend, climb, crawl, stoop; be exposed to heights and tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Able to lift five to fifty pounds (5-50 lbs), with or without assistance, on occasion.
  • 10 or more years of field installation experience (journeyman or master's license in plumbing and/or HVAC; Medical Gas strongly preferred).
  • Possess current, valid driver's license (not under suspension or limitation) in order to travel to job sites; have access to transportation to drive to job sites.
  • Possess strong desire, willingness and ability to learn new tasks.
