Job summary

Vitality Works is seeking a QC Microbiologist to conduct microbiological analyses on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products in a GMP-regulated dietary supplement setting. This experienced role requires solid knowledge of QC systems and procedures.

You will lead microbiological testing, environmental monitoring support, and data reviews to ensure compliance with specifications, while contributing to investigations and instrument qualification.

Qualifications

• BS in Microbiology or equivalent required.
• 4+ years of relevant experience; MS requires 2+ years.
• GMP/GLP knowledge for testing in dietary supplement environment required.
• Proficiency in microbiology techniques and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for microbiological testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products per procedure.
• Support routine Environmental Monitoring activities including room and utility monitoring.
• Owns the OOS process for microbiological testing and analysis.
• Reviews data and results to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Assists investigations and disposition of non-conforming products and customer complaints.
• Assists with investigations and submitting findings to QC/QA manager.
• Manages supplies and assigns expiry to incoming materials; tracks requisitions.
• Writes and executes protocols for qualification/re-qualification of instrumentation.
• Troubleshoots instrumentation and test methods.
• Adopts technology changes and implements new processes when appropriate.
• Keeps abreast of regulatory changes in the industry.
• May serve as a microbiology resource within QC and cross-functionally.
• Assists in other QC department duties.

Position Summary:

As a QC Microbiologist, you will be mainly responsible for conducting microbiological analyses for raw materials, intermediates, and finished product samples according to written procedures. This is a more experienced position requiring sound knowledge of quality control systems, methods, and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

• Accountable for microbiological testing of raw materials, intermediates, and/or finished product samples as required by the procedure so that manufacturing activities are not impacted.


• Support routine Environmental Monitoring activities including room monitoring, utility monitoring, and allergen/protein testing.


• Owns the OOS process that pertains to microbiological testing and analysis.


• Reviews data and results of testing to ensure compliance to appropriate specifications.


• Assisting investigating non-conforming products and disposition.


• Assist with investigations and pertinent customer complaints and submit findings to QC/QA manager.


• Orders supplies and assigns expiry to incoming materials, tracks requisitions and reconciles against incoming materials.


• Writes and executes protocols for the qualification and re-qualification of new and current instrumentation as applicable.


• Troubleshoots instrumentation/test methods.


• Follows technology changes, recommends new technologies, purchase and implement if appropriate.


• Staying abreast of regulatory changes related to the industry.


• May serve as a technical resource relating to Microbiology within the department as well as cross functionally.


• Assisting as needed in all other aspects of the QC department.


• Other duties as assigned by the QC manager.

QualificationsSkills & Requirements:

• 4+ years of relevant experience and a BS degree in Microbiology or equivalent.


• 2+ years of relevant experience and a MS.


• Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.


• Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) for testing pertaining to the Dietary Supplement environment is required.Proficiency in general Microbiology techniques such as plate streaking, aseptic technique, and interpretation of microbiological results.


• Working knowledge of pharmacopoeia and regulatory requirements for testing and validation pertaining to the dietary/herbal supplement industry is required.


• Investigation skills, report writing skills.


• Ability to work quickly and accurately in a production environment.


• Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

• Able to sit for long periods of time.


• Position will require some walking, standing and sitting.


• Some lifting of at least 50 pounds on occasion may be required.
