Job description

We are industry disruptors. We are a high-growth, fast-paced business. We are not in this business to maintain the status quo, we are here to be the best, most nimble, full-service supplier to creative people in the world. Our mission is simple: empower, educate and inspire Makers around the globe to create the best quality product with the best resources to support them. Our customer ranges from the large global retailer in bulk down to the expressive small business owner and DIY extraordinaire. Help us help others make their dreams come true in creating a business they love by creating products they love.

We love what we do. And we only want you to work with us if you’re going to love it too. In fact, we don’t even think of what we do as “work”. Our team is composed of passionate, competent, and committed individuals that make up our collaborative, family-oriented culture.

The Role

The Quality Control Technician owns quality across our production and fulfillment operation, from incoming raw materials to the final packed box. This is a hands-on, on-the-floor leadership role for someone who can build systems and create a culture of accountability. You'll partner closely with production, warehouse leadership, product development, and customer experience to catch problems before the product leaves our warehouse and eliminate them at the root.

What You'll Do
  • Run and record in-process quality checks. Design and execute checks at defined intervals during production runs, including first-piece/first-article approval, line clearance and changeover checks, and scheduled in-line inspections.
  • Control release. Own hold, release, and quarantine for work-in-process and finished goods. Nothing ships until it meets spec.
  • Maintain batch records and traceability. Ensure complete, accurate production and batch records with lot coding on every run. Maintain full traceability from raw material lot to finished good to customer.
  • Sample and test. Implement AQL-based sampling plans for finished goods. Oversee burn testing, stability testing, and retain-sample programs for product performance and safety.
  • Calibrate and control equipment. Maintain a calibration program for scales, thermometers, and filling equipment, with documented records.
  • Ensure product safety and labeling compliance. Verify that products meet applicable standards, including ASTM F2417 (candle fire safety), ASTM F2058 (candle warning labels), and applicable cosmetic/MoCRA GMP requirements. Confirm labels, warnings, barcodes, and lot codes are correct on every run.
  • Keep us retail-ready. Meet retailer vendor quality and compliance requirements, including product specs, packaging, carton markings, labeling, and routing guides. Lead readiness for retailer, GMP, and third-party inspections and audits (e.g., SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas), and own corrective action responses.
  • Own receiving inspection and supplier quality. Inspect incoming raw materials and components against spec, manage nonconforming material, and hold suppliers accountable through supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and scorecards.
  • Drive the numbers. Track and report in-process defect rates, first-pass yield, scrap and rework, order accuracy, customer complaints, and replacement costs. Deliver monthly reporting with root causes and action plans.
  • Fix problems at the root. Lead root cause analysis and CAPA for production and fulfillment issues, closing the loop so errors don't repeat.
  • Build a quality culture. Train operators, leads, and warehouse teams on standards and SOPs. Audit adherence on the floor and coach to it.
  • Maintain GMP and facility standards. Enforce good manufacturing practices, housekeeping, pest control, and sanitation programs that meet retailer and audit expectations.
Add to What You Bring
  • 5+ years of quality control or quality assurance experience in manufacturing, CPG, or distribution/fulfillment, including 2+ years in a leadership role
  • Hands-on experience running in-process QC, batch records, and hold/release programs in a production environment
  • A proven track record of reducing defect rates and error costs, with the numbers to show for it
  • Hands-on experience with root cause analysis, CAPA, SOP development, and inspection programs
  • Strong data skills: comfortable building trackers, analyzing trends, and presenting findings in Google Sheets or Excel
  • Working knowledge of inventory, ERP, or e-commerce systems (NetSuite and Shopify are a plus)
  • Detail-obsessed, calm under pressure, and not afraid to stop the line when something's wrong
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of AQL sampling, lot traceability, and GMP
  • Experience preparing for and passing retailer or third-party quality audits
Bonus Points
  • Experience with candle, fragrance, cosmetics, chemical, or home goods manufacturing
  • Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher), or ISO/GMP experience
  • Experience supporting retailer compliance audits or social/labor audits
  • Background in a fast-growing, multi-channel business
  • Familiarity with ASTM candle standards, MoCRA, or CPSC requirements
  • Experience meeting big-box or department store vendor compliance programs
