Job summary

Heidelberg Materials in Washington state is seeking a Field QC Manager to lead planning for critical placements, translating schedules into field QC priorities and coordinating with Production, Dispatch, Sales, Lab, and customers.

You will oversee QC field testing, containment actions, and incident follow-up, while backfilling during absences to maintain continuity and quality across projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a technical/engineering/construction materials or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ready-mix concrete production and testing.
  • ACI Field Level 1, Strength Testing Technician, Aggregates Technician certifications.
  • Experience with quality reporting systems and data-driven improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and kickoff meetings for critical/high-risk placements.
  • Translate production schedules into field QC priorities with QC Supervisor.
  • Identify risks related to logistics, access, weather, capacity, and requirements.
  • Liaise between Production/Dispatch, Sales, QC, Lab, and customers.
  • Oversee field QC execution, testing cadence, documentation quality, and staff.
  • Coordinate containment actions, follow-up, and closure of quality issues.
  • Backfill QC Manager during absences and ensure proper handoffs.

Line of Business: RMC Pay Range: $104,220.00 - $138,953.32

What You\'ll Be Doing

Lead planning and kickoff meetings for critical or high-risk placements to confirm roles, testing requirements, safety expectations, communication paths, and escalation protocols.

Work with the QC Supervisor to translate production schedules, pour plans, project requirements, and customer commitments into clear field QC priorities.

Proactively identify execution risks including logistics, site access, delivery windows, weather, placement readiness, plant capacity, mix performance, and customer-specific requirements.

Serve as the liaison between Production/Dispatch, Sales, QC, Field teams, Lab, and customers to align expectations before and during placements.

Maintain oversight of field QC execution by reviewing testing cadence, coverage plans, documentation quality, technician availability, and escalated quality issues.

Support quality concern response by coordinating containment actions, increased monitoring, customer communication, internal follow-up, documentation, and closure.

Backfill QC Manager coverage during absences by triaging escalations, supporting containment actions, maintaining stakeholder communication, and ensuring proper handoff.

What Are We Looking For

Degree in a technical, engineering, construction materials, or related field, or an equivalent relevant experience.

Strong knowledge of ready mix concrete production, concrete field testing practices, quality systems, and applicable ASTM, ACI, WAQTC, and AASHTO standards.

ACI Field Level 1, Strength Testing Technician, and Aggregates Technician.

Prior materials, field/lab, and testing procedure experience preferred, with emphasis on aggregates and ready-mix concrete sampling and testing.

Technical proficiency with quality reporting systems, Microsoft Office applications, testing equipment, and data driven process improvement.

Work Environment

Primarily works in the field at ready mix and aggregate facilities, customer job sites, and construction projects throughout the Washington market.

Frequent coordination with materials testing laboratories, operations teams, dispatch, contractors, customers, and regulatory agencies.

Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, moving equipment, traffic hazards, noise, dust, and construction environments.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work occasional Saturdays, early mornings, or extended hours based on project and operational needs.
