Job description

Quality Control Inspector (Various Project Locations)

WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC), is seeking to recruit a Quality Control Inspector. The QC Inspector executes inspection, verification, and acceptance activities in the field in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), project specifications, and applicable codes. The role is the on-the-ground enforcement layer of the Quality Program: confirming readiness, witnessing work in execution, signing off on hold points, documenting results, and initiating non-conformance reporting when work does not meet requirements. QC Inspectors are independent of production crews and report to Quality leadership — not to construction supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute daily inspection and verification activities per the project ITP, including readiness checks, in-process inspections, hold-point witnessing, and final acceptance verifications.
  • Verify materials, consumables, and equipment against approved specifications, mill test reports (MTRs), and project requirements before installation.
  • Witness and document welding activities including welder qualifications, WPS/PQR conformance, visual inspection (VT), and coordination of NDT (RT, UT, MT, PT) with approved subcontractors.
  • Perform discipline-specific inspections (Civil/Structural, Mechanical/Piping, Electrical & Instrumentation, Coatings) as qualified.
  • Confirm hold points are met before work proceeds; enforce the "no progress without release" rule.
  • Initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when work does not meet requirements; support root-cause and corrective action follow-up.
  • Complete all inspection forms, checklists, and turnover documentation accurately and legibly on the day of work; upload to the CDE/EDMS per the Document Control workflow.
  • Support hydrostatic, pneumatic, electrical continuity, and other commissioning-stage testing as part of the testing and turnover process.
  • Interface professionally with client and third-party inspectors; participate in joint walkdowns and surveillance activities.
  • Maintain personal certifications in good standing and notify the QC Manager prior to expiration.
  • Report safety concerns and stop-work conditions in accordance with the WHC HSE program.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school or associate degree.
  • Valid driver's license and TWIC card (or ability to obtain) required.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of field QC inspection experience in Oil & Gas, pipeline, or Power-sector construction.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes: ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8, API 1104, AWS D1.1 as applicable to assignment
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, and project specifications.
  • Proficient in completing digital inspection forms and uploading records to an EDMS/CDE.
  • Strong written documentation skills — inspection records must be legible, complete, and audit-defensible
  • Active certification appropriate to discipline, at minimum one of:
    • API 1169 (Pipeline Construction Inspector) for pipeline assignments
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for welding-intensive scopes
    • NACE/AMPP CIP Level I or II for coatings inspection
    • ASNT NDT Level II in applicable methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) for NDT-focused roles
