Job summary

Roper Whitney in Rockford, IL seeks a hands-on Quality Control Inspector to program the CMM and inspect various sizes of machined and welded metal components to ensure they meet engineering specifications.

You will program and operate CMM equipment, perform first-piece and in-process inspections, and collaborate with Engineering and Production to resolve issues while maintaining quality records.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Experience with PC-DMIS software is highly preferred.
• Experience with Hexagon arms or Zeiss CMM systems is highly preferred.
• Strong GD&T (ASME Y14.5) interpretation and blueprint reading skills.
• Three years of experience inspecting machined parts, welded assemblies, sheet metal.

Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional inspections using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Production to identify root causes of manufacturing issues.

Pay Range: $28.00 – $35.00 per hour
$500 sign-on bonus available.

PURPOSE/FUNCTION/SUMMARY (TRAINING NEEDS)

The quality control inspector should be a hands-on inspector focused on programming the CMM and inspecting various sizes of machined and welded metal components to ensure they meet engineering specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Program and operate CMM equipment to inspect complex parts and assemblies.
• Perform dimensional inspections (first piece, last piece, in-process) on machined parts and weldments using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other specialized measuring equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to investigate, identify, and resolve the root causes of manufacturing issues.
• Evaluate production quality by identifying, assessing, and documenting defects in semi-finished and finished goods.
• Maintain quality records by accurately completing required forms, reports, logs, and compliance documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Education: High School or GED equivalent.
• Technical Skills:
  • Experience with PC-DMIS software is highly preferred.
  • Experience using Hexagon arms or Zeiss CMM systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T / ASME Y14.5) skills with the ability to interpret complex blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Three years of experience with machined parts, fabricated welded assemblies, sheet metal parts.
• Testing: Must be able to pass a practical micrometer and caliper proficiency test.
• Certification: ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Quality Technician (CQT) is a plus.
