Job summary

California Giant Berry Farms is seeking a QC Inspector to inspect strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries per company standards. This role includes accurate data entry, adherence to GMPs and GAPs, and communication of product quality to QA management and stakeholders.

The position requires 1–2 years in berry quality control, knowledge of food safety regulations, and the ability to work in cold environments with team collaboration and reliability. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in berry quality control.

• Basic electronic skills for data entry and report generation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects (shape, color, softness).
• Ability to work in varying environment conditions, including cold temperatures, during berry processing and storage.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections and grading of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries according to California Giant standards and specifications.
• Accurate entry of reports into quality system platforms using computers or tablets.
• Follow GMPs and GAPs for handling of fresh berries.
• Send email communications about product quality to QA management, growers, cooling operations, sourcing and sales using iPad.
• Assist the QA team in other duties such as shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting of product.
• Receive unannounced customer visits.
• Support sustainability goals and initiatives in daily work.
• Work safely in a fast-paced environment and recognize hazards around forklifts and heavy equipment in motion.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently in all growing regions with little or no supervision. This California Giant QC Inspector position will inspect fruit according to California Giant standards and specifications.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections and grading of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries according to company's grading standards and specifications.
• Accurate entry of reports into quality system platforms using computers or tablets
• Follow the company's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP's) for handling of fresh berries
• Send email communications about product quality to QA management, growers, cooling operations, sourcing and sales using iPad.
• Assist the QA team in other duties assigned such as but not limited to shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting of product.
• Receive unannounced customer visits.
• Continuously look for ways to improve sustainability practices in daily work routine and seek opportunities to contribute to sustainability goals set by the organization.
• Work safely in a fast-paced environment and recognize potential hazards around forklifts and other heavy equipment in motion.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

• This position must be able to stand for long periods of time inspecting fruit.
• Must be able to lift 20-25 lbs up onto pallets of fruit at shoulder level on a continual basis throughout the shift.
• This position is subject to harvesting schedules and could work as much as 9-10-hour days. Some days could be longer
• This position may work up to 6 days a week during the season depending on the harvesting schedule.
• Must be able to work in cold environments with temperatures as low as 32 ° F. This includes the ability to wear appropriate cold-weather gear provided by the company and maintain productivity and safety standards.
