Job summary

The Bloom Engineering, a Wabtec Company, quality control inspector will verify materials, weldments, coatings, and finished products meet customer, engineering, and regulatory requirements. How Will You Make a Difference?

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for verifying that materials, fabricated components, welded assemblies, coatings, refractory installations, and finished products meet all customer, engineering, industry, regulatory, and company quality requirements. The inspector conducts inspections throughout the manufacturing process, reviews quality documentation, identifies nonconforming conditions, and supports corrective actions to ensure products are delivered safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable specifications.

This is a union position with a pay rate of $38.11/hour.

What Do We Want to Know About You?

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical school training, manufacturing certification, or related education preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience inspecting fabricated weldments, assemblies, and industrial equipment preferred. Prior welding experience is a plus.
• Experience with material traceability and quality documentation preferred.

Inspection Equipment - Must be proficient in using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, thickness gauges, dual indicators, surface profile gauges, weld gauges, and precision measuring instruments.

Computer Skills – Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products, Microsoft Outlook, ERP/MRP systems, electronic quality management systems, and digital inspection reporting systems.

What Will Your Typical Day Look Like?

Incoming Material Inspection

• Inspect incoming raw materials, components, purchased parts, and outsourced machined and fabrication components and assemblies.
• Verify welding activities are performed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
• Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
• Identify weld discontinuities and ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.
• Verify material certifications, heat numbers, traceability records, and compliance with purchase order requirements.
• Review Mill Test Reports (MTRs), Certificates of Compliance (COCs), and supplier quality documentation.
• Confirm proper identification and storage of incoming materials.
• Document and report material discrepancies or supplier quality issues.

In-Process Inspection

• Work with the group leaders and shop employees to perform dimensional inspections of assemblies and components during in-shop fabrication (when required), refractory, assembly, and paint.
• Verify compliance with manufacturing drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality plans.
• Conduct visual inspections of assemblies throughout production.
• Monitor compliance with established manufacturing and quality procedures.
• Work with the group leaders to perform first article, in-process, and final inspections as required.
• Assist/support in burner repair inspection in coordination with engineering and production.

Final Inspection

• Conduct comprehensive final inspections prior to shipment.
• Verify product configuration, dimensions, labeling, documentation, and customer-specific requirements.
• Ensure all quality documentation is complete and accurate.
• Approve products for shipment when requirements are satisfied.

Documentation and Records

• Maintain accurate physical and electronic inspection records, reports, and quality documentation.
• Complete inspection checklists and reports in a timely manner.
• Review manufacturing travelers, routers, and quality packages for completeness.
• Ensure traceability and record retention requirements are maintained.
• Assist in preparing quality data for customer reviews and audits.

Nonconformance Management

• Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials and products.
• Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs).
• Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities.
• Verify effectiveness of corrective actions when implemented.

Customer/Vendor Inspection Support

• Perform quality inspections at vendor facilities as required.
• Verify vendor compliance with approved drawings, specifications, purchase order requirements, and quality expectations.
• Review vendor manufacturing and inspection records.
• Ensure vendor documentation packages are complete prior to shipment.
• Assist during customer audits and regulatory audits.
• Interface professionally with customers, suppliers, inspectors, and regulatory representatives.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Recommend improvements to inspection methods, processes, and quality systems.
• Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
• Promote a culture of quality and product compliance throughout the organization.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking throughout production areas.
• Frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to work in manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor environments.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing and industrial shop environment.
• Exposure to welding operations, machining, grinding, paint operations, and material handling activities.
• May require overtime, weekends, or off-shift work based on production schedules and customer requirements.
• Occasional travel to suppliers or customer sites may be required.
